Oh well, maybe someone else will enjoy the summary :)
I did.

H2Andy:
then, i asked a question: would moving the canister to the left be considered
against DIR or is it one of those thigns that can be done both ways, such
as the light?

since i have been using stages with a canister light on the right, and it
hasn't been an issue, i wonder if i am missing something that may make
changing the canister to the left and having stages there an issue.

One reason I can think of for not wearing the light on the left in a cave. I have heard about becoming keyholed and having to take off the light to get back out. If the light is on your left then you have to remove the buckle from the waist strap to remove the light.

Info: I'm not cave/cavern trained, so take it for what it's worth.

ok, typo on my part a while back. yes, DIR-F taught me to use light on left.

and yes, i believe i've gotten tons of good info on this thread, most of it from
DIR divers

that's what i was looking for, the reasoning behind certain items being in a certain
place

i still have questions about one issue, though:

why would you not put the canister on the left?

i mean, i use my canister on the right, and i use a stage bottle there... so...
why would that be a problem on the left?

[edit-onfloat, didnt see your post just now... thanks]

With all apologies to Dan Gibson, IN Cavediver, OBG, and others that made contributive efforts, its hard to seperate info from noise sometimes in these topics you have to read a few times through

Did my paraphrasing ruffle your feathers? Thanks for the cliffs

Ahh.. no, not ruffle my feathers... I just didn't realize that you were referring to my post.

My response was meant as a response to another poster implying that the DIR method was dangerous.

I was trying to say that change IS ok and allowed in the DIR system, but it is not done trivially or just because someone decided to be different. I'm sure it would take MUCH consideration and trial before something of a change was considered.
It is not going to be changed because of me, the OP, or anyone else just liking it another way.

Where would you put your argon bottle?

I am not an expert, and don't play one on TV, I am just trying to give honest DIR answers as I know them. Onfloat in the post above gives a good reason (in case it needed to be removed) that I had learned but forgotten about.

i don't know. i don't use argon.

where does the argon normally go?

Non-issue, I know cave divers who dive this way. They put the buckle on the right, becomes a non issue.

If you get deeper into the caves you will end up using Helium, so you might need argon.

Well...for the big WKPP dives they put the argon bottle on the backgas tanks. (kinda like a pony bottle)

2 different "wreck" styles. 1 - is were the argon is clipped to the waist strap behind the d-ring. The other method is like the one sold by Halcyon. Attaches on the left side of the plate.

hmm... i see... so if you attach it to the left side of plate or behind d-ring, it will interfere with the canister light?

i guess i'd have to attach it to my doubles
