I'm pretty sure that I don't want my buddy fumbling around in the dark for my SPG clipped to my crotch D-ring. ;)

Becuase when the back is arched your knees are up and your head is up. Good position for finning and good position for looking around. If a diver was completely horizontal without arching the back the head would be down (unless that diver strained his/her neck alot).

I do look down most of the time...when I whish to see my buddy I turn my head sideways...and there he is...I only look up when I want to see where I´m going...most of the time I glance to get a sense of the topography and then only glance again as I move forward...

Don´t knees up cause you to be propelled downwards by your kicks?
I strive for 90 dgr angle at knees and ankles...

LOL...Make for some embarrassing video

why would your buddy want to touch your "spg"....in the dark? maybe there´s a "darker" aspect to dir that is not talked about? ;-)

Lamont...I understand and agree

Ankles & feet up (therefore fins are vertical) cause you to be propelled downwards.

Not that I've noticed. I guess I'm used to having my head up so it all works out :14:

If I keep my head down and start tucking my chin in towards my chest, I'll begin to change my center of gravity and my upper torso will start to swing down.

It's the right hand side, but as I mentioned I think it was done for illustration purposes only, as floater mentions page 77 has the correct deployment.

Dive-aholic:
It doesn't seem that all DIR divers follow that mantra.

Jasonmh:
I am sorry that you feel that way. Please read post 197, where I summarize all the DIR answers given (remember, the OP asked for the DIR viewpoint). Read ALL the post from DIR-Atlanta, do you really feel that these were not intended to be helpful?

Reread my post. I’m not directing it at all DIR divers. There just seem to be a few here that aren’t very helpful. It seems their only goal is to incite riot whenever a DIR discussion comes up. My consideration of DIR and desire to learn about it came from reading posts here by some of the DIR divers…those that are the helpful type… :D

Jasonmh:
Of course not everyone has to be DIR, and several people, including myself, multiple times in this thread have said so. He asked for the DIR perspective, he got it, if he doesn't like the answers, that is fine. He is free to make up his own mind.
Actually, IMO, it does work everywhere for everyone if one follows it. I would say more that "not everyone is going to agree with it", and that is fine.

I’ll give you that one. :D Not everyone will agree with it. It’s just that some here think that’s wrong and are very vocal about it.

Jason B:
That's what turned me off to DIR, the attitude of the divers. I don't care to be associated with people of such character, regardless of their diving skills.

Not all Dir divers are like that – DIR-Atlanta, for one, TSandM, for another. I’m still interested in taking fundies. If the day ever comes, I know where I will take it and where I won’t take it.

I'm happy to see this thread has calmed down to a dull roar. :D

True. In any group you are going to have that, it is unrealistic to expect that ALL people in any group are going to behave a certain way.

EDIT - "I’m still interested in taking fundies. If the day ever comes, I know where I will take it and where I won’t take it."
Speaking of, we have a Fundies class in NM in July if you are interested. Not to far from AZ and with a great instructor... We'd love to have you if you are interested.
