We were on the boat in Key Largo a couple of weeks ago and we did not have any defogger. Got to talking with another diver and he said he used "spit". My wife gave me that "look" cuz I had told her about that being an option. Well,,, the Spit this guy was talking about was in a bottle and sold in a dive shop. The guy said it was the ony thing he had found that would keep his mask from fogging. I also had yet to be on a dive that my mask did not fog. I had done the soft scrub, toothpaste, baby shampoo, and 2 or 3 other products(sea drops, PSI etc.) I still fogged. In fact I had learned a little trick to leave a little water in my mask to slosh around ocassionally.

He shared a couple of drops with each of us and for the first time I did not fog on either dive. We went back out that afternoon and he was not on the boat so we borrowed some baby shampoo this time. Worked for the wife but for me, back to sloshing around. Before we dove the next day I had secured a bottle of spit and it worked like a charm.
So ,, spit works best for me as a defogger

I have also used comercial Spit (I don't want to know how its made!) It worked pretty well. Still like Sea drops gold.

I use spit as well, just good old fashioned spit, make it myself. Sell ya some lets say 4.99 for 8 oz bottle maybe :)

An instructor I know showed me a trick to initially clean a mask that seems to work wonders to stop fogging. You still have to use something, but this is the initial treatment. Most people use soft scrub or toothpaste to rub off the coating on the inside of the mask but this worked better...although it sounds a little nuts.

He took a bic lighter, and used it to burn the inside of the mask. He just moved the flame around and you could see the inside coating turn black and become ash. It took maybe two or three minutes. Then he took a handful of soap...it was soap powder I believe but any sort of soap would do...and washed out the inside of the mask with some water.

Voila! The mask...which a diver had been using and which kept fogging, never fogged again after only a regular cleaning and rinsing before the dive. I tried the same technique on my back up mask, which I hadn't cleaned yet...and it worked like a charm.

I know...it sounds nuts, but it works.

Wow... $4.99 for an 8 oz bottle? That's a lotta spittin to fill that big ole bottle!! Hows about a 4 oz... then you don't have to work REALLY hard at it! LOL

I also use My Own Spit.... and it works just fine! Hmmmm.... I'll sell mine for the same price, but I'll include a handy, dandy, FREE dropper to use in placing drops on the mask! In fact, order now, and I'll throw in an add't 2 ounce bottle of My Own Spit. Call now.... 555-OWN-SPIT. Satisfaction guaranteed!

Never seen a need for any commercial products. I've always used good old fashioned (and cheap) spit (aka saliva). Mask never fogs... unless I forget to use it.

Hey, I think I was the guy who loaned you my spit in Key Largo. I've got some pictures to send you, but you can look at a few in my gallery. Thanks to your wife for pointing out that green morey!

Thanks again for the spit.
