You'll need a 6 mm hex head to remove the balance plug so you can ascertain whether or not you'll need the the old (looks like Zeagle) Epic or newer ( looks like Apeks) D2 rebuild kit, if you have the latter. So far that's the extent of the secret lore I've discovered. Inside the regulator looks clean and sweet.

You'll also need 6mm hex to tighten down the DIN retainer if it ever comes loose. 80 inch lbs will do.
 
I'm assuming from this picture that the old Epic utilized a replaceable (white) seat/oriface like a Zeagle.
