Not a collector but more of a toy gatherer.:D You can't have a serious selection of dive watches without a representative from Rolex, Omega, Seiko, and of course Doxa. I also prefer the Seadweller. The heft and size of the Deep Sea were the two factors that turned me away from it. Also the titanium alloy backing as well - actually that's the biggest factor for me because my skin is allergic to titanium alloy. Learned that irritating lesson ten years ago.

A fine collection!!

For me it was the ruggedness of the Deep Sea that attracted me to it. I often accidentally bashed my Sea Dweller into the walls of the chamber. The fact that the Deep Sea is tougher will give me an added sense of security. ;)

The Seadweller was a plenty tough watch already and the Deep Sea is even more so. It's a serious piece of equipment and I'm glad to see that you will make it earn its keeps.

I just bought a Mako speargun which I absolutely love and spring straps which I don't know how I went so long without.

Got this one as part of a tip for a week of diving.....

I'm contemplating another one. Either the Ball Hydrocarbon Classic II or another Doxa (1000T Diving Star with the yellow face). Too bad I can't afford to buy both.:(

If you get the Ball, consider the black face model. The white is hard to read in the daylight.

With the 5o (or so) Tritium capsules, it works either way at night.

Here's the Ball and the Luminox, side by side.

The internet hooey about the Ball being so bright "you can get a suntan from it" (and so on) is a profound exaggeration.

Tritium illumination is great when you are sleeping away from your illuminated bed-side clock back home.

Either will tell me when lunch starts.

From what I've read on the Ball, I'm a bit surprised that the bezel zero isn't brighter. Aren't the bezel markers suppose to illuminate as well?

I think the Ball Trieste Chronograph is an excellent watch! $3500 is reasonable for what your getting; especially considering only 1000 will be made. It's a slap in the face to Rolex in a way. On the day of the record setting dive, Rolex attached an actual watch (a prototype) attached to the outside of the Bathyscaphe, which survived the dive. Rolex has some film of the dive on its Website "The Deepest Dive" : OFFICIAL ROLEX WEBSITE - HOMEPAGE

Rolex has made a special version of the Deep Sea commemorating the life of Auguste Piccard, the designer of the Trieste. He died at 86 years of age, so Rolex has only made 86 of these watches. I was very tempted to purchase one, as some were still available for approx. $20,000 U.S., an incredible investment for anyone who has 30 or 40 years of life available to them, or wishes to leave something behind as an inheritance. http://www.singlereddeepsea.com/

Slap in the face? Maybe even a kick in the shorts ;)
