A New Piece of Diving Equipment

Green with envy! I have a one year old 'classic' Sea Dweller, then tried on the Deep Sea at Dubai airport, oh dear, I liked it! Trouble is I can't bear to part with my existing Sea Dweller, so no trade in. One day, one day, I will get myself one, and it will get wet! (I dive with my Sea Dweller all the time, sometimes as deep as 35m! (its rated to 1200m)

Sounds good. I don't know why Rolex keeps increasing the depth rating of these watches. My sea Dweller was good to 2000 ft. The deepest I've gone as a saturation diver was just over 1300'. I would never need to go deeper than this (unless I'm buried at sea). The next series were guaranteed to 4000 ft and the Deep Sea is now rated for 12,800'. Kinda ridiculous really.

I had no idea a watch that was used daily could be worth that much. Much different than a collector edition of a gun you shot only a few times. Wow.
My latest was this compressor and banks.

Water Resistance Guide
No Rating - 30m/99ft Does not allow contact with water
30m/99ft - 50m/165ft Allows for contact with water such as washing hands and rain
50m/165ft - 100m/330ft Allows for light poolside swimming
100m/330ft - 200m/660ft Allows for swimming, snorkeling and showering (do not expose to hot water)
200m/660ft - 500m/1650ft Allows for impact water sports such as board diving and scuba diving
500m/1650ft + Appropriate for serious deep water diving.

I guess if a watch rated to 50 meters allows for "light poolside swimming," the 12,800' rating might make some sense.

Guess mine was the second generation...says 4000ft. I'll have to find the jeweler's loupe (or finally use that prescription for bifocals) to see a serial number. Oh well, the important part is to enjoy wearing the watch. My brother bought it and never even made it past the first dive class.

I had a heck of a time as well. I had the papers and knew what the numbers were, but looking at the side of the watch after removing the bracelet caused me a headache.

as a general rule, I am not a bling guy. I drive a ford, wear bland chothes, always look for value dive gear (not cheap, but good price for the right stuff). It's never been about whether I could afford it or not, it's just been why spend money you don't have to. But, the one thing I've always coveted was a Rolex. Don't know why, it just is. In general I am a watch guy. I have several, including a fairly high end Invicta dive watch that my wife gave me for father's day. So I am envious.

Great looking watch! I bought a Tudar submariner almost 20 years ago. It went throught the army with me, out of airplains and into the ocean several times. It is still my only watch although it has started loosing a little time in the past couple of years. I am sure that watch of yours will last a nice long time.

I almost bought a new Tudor instead of my first Rolex. The Rolex was just a little more, but was used. I hummed and hawed, as they were both nice watches. My Sea Dweller went through times where it started to lose time, but it just needed a cleaning. Thanks for your comments.
