yep. Ditching weights at depth should IMO be a last resort solution. Once they are ditched, you cant put them back on.
Putting the weight belt under the crotch strap does not make them unditchable so I believe It's a safe (if not safer) practice. Mentioning it to your buddy (if you aint solo) could be a good practice though in case he has to ditch them at your place for whatever reason.
But inside a drysuit!!!!! I'm still amazed at that one :sigh:
