Hi all,
I'm going for my aow cert friday and am a bit nervous about the deep dive. I dived 90 ft in cozumel last year but for some reason I am still nervous. I also have explained this to my instructor and he said he will be with the whole time and just relax as we will only be at 120ft for 5 mins to watch the egg trick (whatever) after the 5 mins we will ascend at a 45 degree angle up the reef and stop for our saftey and surface. Is it normal to be this nervous before a dive??

Hey...welcome to the board. I think we only did 60ft to qual on AOW !! Dont worry about being nervous unless it incapacitates your ability to think. Nervous is ok....

Just know your equipment...where everything is....think of what can go wrong ..(do this for every dive)...be ready....and enjoy.

I totally understand how you feel i just did mine a few weeks ago but believe once you are one the boat you cant wait until you go down in fact i was the first one to jump of the boat , you will have a great time, just listen carefully what your instructor says and HAVE FUN!

Yes, I think that going below 60 feet is all that is need to qualify, but your Instructor is giving you a good lesson. So many divers show up in Belize, for example, with Deep Diver certs, but are not at all prepared for the 150 foot dive in Blue Hole.

I'm trying to remember, but I just don't think I ever had a problem with it. But then, I grew up wrestling cattle, did 100 feet on my Resort Dive, and kept the last pickup I rolled in my backyard for 6 years to remind me to drive better. :biggrimja

Still, you should be fine. Just enjoy it...

Hey Welcome.
As too the deep dive I remember that was the only part of AOW that I was worried about. Trust me when you get there it does not feel any different then 60ish. As the rest have said pay attention to your instructor, relax, enjoy hey its another dive so have fun.

pefectly normal bro, i am in fact going deep tommorow, previous was only 104. i guess iam as nervous as you. we fear the great beyond but once we are actually going thru it the nerves will pass. just listen and pay close attention to your Instructor and signal him if anything goes wrong... good luck!

I intend to be the same way when I get to that point. Nervous/excitement is good, draw parrallels to other life experiences like taking your driving test, first date even the first time you sunk in to a pool depending on a regulator to breathe. It's been a progression, enjoy the next step.
