Well, there's a fairly new place called Chillin' up near the Corpus Christi church (site of several ghosts of restaurants past). It's a tapas/wine bar in evening but we went for Sunday brunch which they just started serving. We both had eggs benedict in which the eggs were slightly too well cooked for me (I like them runny). They offered a re-do but I was full after eating about 1/2 of the serving. So they comped my wine. Lovely woodwinds music played live. I think it would be a nice place to hang out with a glass of wine if you're in that neck of the woods. Can't comment on the supper menus. Service was good. Place was virtually empty but that's not a shock since this was only their second Sunday brunch service.

We had dinner at Sal D Mar. Overall we were very impressed. I had the lobster Mac and cheese. At least one whole lobster tail in it.Large portion and finished off by my dinner companions. One had the filet mignon and said it was done to perfection. She said it was better than my favourite at Especias. One had the catch of the day and said it was excellent. The owner inherited the house from his grandfather. Obviously put some pesos back into it. Designer from Merida. The restaurant is beautiful and prices seemed reasonable for the quality of the food. Great for a special night out. I will go back.

My other half and I had dinner at Sal de Mar last night. Simple casual elegance, excellent service, atmosphere, presentation, prices, and food. It also passes the "restroom test" (clean, roomy stalls, AC in the WC, and pretty - haha. It was a fabulous experience and it will be making it to my restaurant list.

We did a sampling of a few appetizers (tuna tartare, steak tartare and the grilled octopus) - all were excellent. I consider myself a tuna tartare snob and I typically order it anytime it is on a menu - so I've tried many. Up to this point, Le Chef here in Cozumel was my favorite, so I've measured them all to that. I still love the tuna tartare at Le Chef, but Sal de Mar wins this one as my all time favorite tuna tartare. The steak tartare and octopus were also exceptional.

Mark had the Moorish lamb and I had their special which was a seafood risotto. Again, both dishes were exceptional and generous portions.

We decided since we were already splurging, we ordered to desert to have the full experience. He had the lemon pie and I had the coconut ice cream with passion fruit (served in a coconut shell with fresh meringue on top and pie crust crumbles - it was divine and a very light desert - and is now my all time favorite desert - it is something I can see me craving!

So based on our experience, I give this place a 5 out of 5 on atmosphere, pricing, service, presentation and quality of food (and restrooms - haha).

EDIT to add: Neither of us drink but they also appeared to have a nice wine list and they have a full bar as well. Our dinner was around $75 total including a very generous tip for both of us without alcohol - but we had appetizers, entrees, desert and coffee - and Mark had a couple of diet cokes.

Sad news today: Local 707 has announced that tonight will be its last dinner service before permanently closing.
That sucks, they really had great food and they were a really fun group of gals. With only 4 tables they were limited on scale, I hope they attempt another restaurant in town.

Dang - The food was absolutely fantastic and so were the gals running the place.

Maple Bakehouse was a highlight but only found it on our last full day. Just a few doors away from Al Pie du Carbon. A trendy hip style coffee house with amazing food. We went for breakfast and be warned it's busy but we managed to get a table within 2 minutes. The eggs Benedict were in a parmesan cup and were just sooo good!!!

The baked goods I got to take back to the villa were meh. Zermatt makes a better cinnanmon roll and even that's just ok.
