Another fairly new place that is really good is Chardonnay, Calle 7 e Ave. 5. Had a really nice fish dinner there last summer, and planning on another tonight...
(Posted while enjoying a plate of octopus tacos at Camilo's, another classic place...)

I really didn't mean to start yet another Coz favorite restaurant thread (although I always follow each and every version of those threads). Was just trying to get info on the new restaurants that are opening up. I keep a file with all the restaurants that I've plagiarized from previous posts/sticky docs.

Might just be my perception but seems like a shift in restaurants going on (or Coz just getting more touristy!). Several new "fancy" restaurants, old time favorites leaning more towards the cruise crowds, the southern beach bars/restaurants turning into all-inclusives, etc...

Has anybody tried Danny Boy Restaurant yet? That is Danny that use to work at Kellys new place just FYI.

Had a great meal at La Choza, but I saw a specials menu in facebook but nothing at the restaurant. Should I have asked?

Another awesome meal at New Especias last night, 2 Fillets, pasta meal, 2 margs and 2 desserts for $47, wow.

Yea, you have to ask about the Comida del dia.

too bad about La Hatch. they were open late Wed-Sat. Also had very good tacos el pastor.
hopefully the new place will have late hours as well.

La Choza is always dependable.

AND they have Avocado Pie!!!!

we must have caught them on an off day or something. we ate there for lunch a few years ago and were not impressed at all.
gonna have to try it again sometime I guess.

A friend tried Sal de Mar and said it was meh. Not that great.
We had dinner at Sal D Mar. Overall we were very impressed. I had the lobster Mac and cheese. At least one whole lobster tail in it.Large portion and finished off by my dinner companions. One had the filet mignon and said it was done to perfection. She said it was better than my favourite at Especias. One had the catch of the day and said it was excellent. The owner inherited the house from his grandfather. Obviously put some pesos back into it. Designer from Merida. The restaurant is beautiful and prices seemed reasonable for the quality of the food. Great for a special night out. I will go back.

If La Choza is anything, it's consistent, at least the times I have been there over the past 25 years or so and what I have had to eat there. Some things are just a matter of taste and preferences. La Choza is on my list of must-do Cozumel restaurants, but not everything is for everyone.

I kind of like the idea of an on going thread about new restaurants that provides reviews. There are so many good established restaurants that many, like myself, find ourselves returning to them repeatedly. Over the last year I have noticed after leaving the island that I look back and wish I would've tried some of the newer establishments if nothing else to help support the newer establishments get established. What is nice to know is if a new place is worth visiting as opposed to what is the 'best' restaurant.
