I haven't done a boat dive since 2015. The charters I've taken (FL panhandle, Miss., SC, in winter) weren't crowded, but always was a long day--getting up like 4 in the morning to be at a dock at 7:30, etc., getting back to a condo late aft. and begin rinsing all the stuff.I'm just the opposite. As I've become older (than you), I've all but given up boat dives. I no longer want to put up with rigid schedules and crowded dive sites. My buddy and I go to Bonaire every year to shore dive.
I miss the depth, but not the long days.
I agree the shore dives are so much easier time wise, especially going solo almost all the time. Then again, you're talking Bonaire. What I've read is shore diving there is pretty easy as long as you have good booties. Some sites here in NS are super easy, but some not at all. I'm not climbing up & down any boulders anymore.
