Jumping on the thread instead of making a new one. I have a 7' flex hose from DGX, and I can't seem to get the routing right. When running the hose under a right side waist pocket, across the chest and around my neck to my right cheek, there doesn't seem to be enough slack.

However, if I run it under my right arm, down across my chest and under my SPG, then up my back and around to my right cheek, there is enough room.

What am I doing wrong here? I'm 5' 9", 180lbs, so I'm not a big dude.

probably going to need a picture of your configuration. Your SPG should be on your left hip, so not sure why going all the way across your body to your left hip would work while your right hip wouldn't.

This is an absolute PITA. It comes undone easily.

Buy a pocket that mounts on your waist and tuck it under that, or get a can light.

Tucking it has worked perfectly for me when I was working in the keys and on vacation in cayman. Diving almost daily in both places.

Can't do a photo at the moment. My SPG is on my left hip.

I just realized it might be due to where the pocket is placed. It's a small weight pocket on the waist webbing and is flush with the backplate. I'm pretty sure having a pocket there isn't DIR, but a weight belt doesn't really work for me.

A pocket like this one from Dive Rite on the waist belt where the can light would otherwise be located works well for me. My Fundies instructor did not object to it as nonconforming for rec. He's the one who suggested a pocket in the first place as a way to deal with the hose tucking issue in the absence of a can light. If you want the same sort of pocket with blue H's on it, they make one.

I don't know what UTD does.

5ft was minimum but standards might have changed. At least with our local instructors they expect min 5ft in the recreational classes, 7ft in deco classes.

Agree with the others, unless you are petite the 7ft works well with or without a can light since there's more to tuck.

they do make one and I recommend it. it's better.

By the way, I ended up using the 5' Miflex hose this weekend while finishing up my DM training, and... it was just fine. I just had it routed incorrectly to begin with.

I can imagine how Miflex might be a problem with a 7' hose, though.

I've been diving a 5' Miflex hose for a few years now, it works just fine. The only thing to be aware of is that the Miflex has a tendency to "remember" or retain the coil, which you may notice doing modified s-drills, but you'll have it worked out in no time.

Thanks, I'll keep that in mind.
