halcyon makes a little can light surrogate that slides on the belt. a piece of delrin you can loop the hose under if you dont want to put it in your belt. it's like 10-15 bucks

Deep Sea Supply makes one, too.

Help me out here. Since I do not use a can light, the suggestions are tuck the long hose under my belt or purchase a can light surrogate that slides on my belt. How is the surrogate different than a nylon knife holder? Does this seem a bit ad hoc?

As mentioned earlier, a third option is to put a pocket on your belt and tuck it under the pocket. A pocket may work better than a knife holder unless you've got a big knife.

A can light surrogate can be made from a short length of PVC pipe. Just cut rectangular openings in it for the belt. The idea of a can light surrogate seems like a waste of space to me. A pocket is handy.

the difference is one is a knife and the other is a piece of delrin.
i think what you're picking up on here is that it doesn't matter what you tuck it under.

just tuck it
This is an absolute PITA. It comes undone easily.

Buy a pocket that mounts on your waist and tuck it under that, or get a can light.

Jumping on the thread instead of making a new one. I have a 7' flex hose from DGX, and I can't seem to get the routing right. When running the hose under a right side waist pocket, across the chest and around my neck to my right cheek, there doesn't seem to be enough slack.

However, if I run it under my right arm, down across my chest and under my SPG, then up my back and around to my right cheek, there is enough room.

What am I doing wrong here? I'm 5' 9", 180lbs, so I'm not a big dude.
