noCool video, I still have not learned to back kick. Is that a required skill of aow certification, now?

What else in your video is not required but you teach it anyway? No, not required in AOW but I include it in the course. It's not a pass/fail item but my students should at least know the fundamentals and through deliberate practice, they'll eventually get it. Too many divers push on the corals (damaging them) with their hand or use a pointer stick to move back . Frog Kick and Flutter Modified are taught in OW.
I would assume you tell them it's not a part of the course, right? It's not a pass/fail item but my students should at least know the fundamentals and through deliberate practice, they'll eventually get it.

I can't frog-kick or back kick. My fins may be part of the problem, though I can't be too sure.Cool video, I still have not learned to back kick. Is that a required skill of aow certification, now?
This is a mandatory part of BSAC’s Advanced Ocean Diver course.- DSMB Mid-Water: Deploying a DSMB in mid-water is not an AOW requirement. However it is a valuable skill for divers venturing into open water environments, especially those who participate in liveaboard trips.
I say do away with the arm sweep method; instead, "necklace" your alternate - if you lose your main, just dip down and use the alternate, then take your time recovering your main. For newer divers who may tend to panic, this is a much safer alternative.Frankly, to me that reg recovery was scary.
