[QUOTE="SCRedWolf, are for when you can hear or see a search vessel since they dissipate in roughly 30 minutes. Still better than waving your arms and yelling.

Fluorescent Green Sea Dye Survival Marker-Two Pack[/QUOTE]
Aw. :( I did not know that. But this new to me info, explains why the dye packs are not more popular.

I didn't know that either but once you brought up the dye packs I had to find out more about them for myself.

This unfortunate situation made me think what if it happens to me. So, for my next liveaboard, I'll have the following items attached to my BCD or in BCD pockets:
1. Whistle
2. 6' SMB
3. Mirror
4. Flashlight
5. Dive Alert air horn
6. Nautilus Lifeline
7. Ocean Signal RescueME PLB1

The 1st 4 items are already in my BCD. The last 3 items I just ordered them today.

what you need depends where you are diving. for the Caribbean LOBs we do, a whistle, safety sausage, mirror and flashlight are more than enough. No current to speak of with all diving done from the mother ship.

if i was doing deco diving or current diving then i would swap the sausage for a DSMB and add a PLB.

8. Water and food
Make sure everything is securely packed and stowed.

Do you actually do that? Not sure if I'll have space for that. Water is pretty bulky.

The Nautilus & PLB1 are pretty small, about the size of the old iPhone4 each. They can easily fit into the BCD pocket without feeling bulky carrying extra stuff that would hardly be needed if the diving goes as plan.

The dive alert takes no pocket space. It fits inline between BCD inlet air line & valve.

The reason to have the Nautilus & PLB1 is for the rescuers to find me within 2 days, which are the battery lifes of the distress signals transmitted by both Nautilus & PLB1 in tandem. I think I can survive for 2 days w/o food & water. After 2 days, the signals will fade away and no more hope of them finding me anyway.

True. I'm planning to dive with LOB in Galápagos in December. That'll be my 1st time. I just don't know how bad the Humboldt Current there will be in December.

If it rains, you can use the container to catch water. ;)

Let's not forget a fishing net. Heehee

Might as well bring wasabi to make sashimi while waiting for the boat to come get you. :)

Seriously though, I heard the fish eye balls are good source of freshwater.

I never done that but my buddy does in remote places. Half a liter of water and some energy bars in a water proof container strapped on the CAM band.
Another buddy used to carry a raft but he gave up the practice eventually.
