The body of the Navy mine clearance diver who went missing after training on Friday in Brest harbor was found on Saturday. He is Petty Officer Adam Tahri, 28, assigned to the Atlantic Mine Clearance Diver Group, the Navy Chief of Staff announced.
His colleagues had alerted the rescue services on Friday shortly after 1 p.m. that Adam Tahri, one of them, had not returned to the surface after a dive. A large device had been deployed without success to try to locate the missing diver, the maritime prefecture indicated at the time.
The Lorient gendarmerie brigade was instructed to investigate by the Brest prosecutor in order to determine the precise circumstances of this disappearance.
The Navy's mine clearance divers are a corps of the French Navy, attached to the Naval Action Force, specializing in missions involving the neutralization of explosive devices, underwater work, underwater searches, amphibious operations and even assault de-booby-trapping as part of maritime counter-terrorism.
