How far back is "it used to be"? :) Looks to be as good as the last 2 years, didn't really know much about it before then :D

The first couple "Bonnaroo's" were pretty wild from what folks told me. I remeber seeing it on the news and my brother went.

They had many tens of thousands more people show up than they expected. They had all kinds of problems. Not enough drinking water, overflowing portable toliets, food, etc. It was quite hetic from what I was told. Interstate 24 was backed up for hours because of it. It completely shut down I-24. It took hours just to get in to park.

The last couple years they've really been much better organized.

BTW... the dates this year are June 16-18th. (not the 10-12th as you noted above)

We'll be sure to keep you updated, hopefully a date will be found that fits everyone's schedule.

Ok, I'll be around Gulf Shores June 3-10, and am putting June 4 out as the proposed date. Anybody care to postpone it to August?

Again, I'll provide a pot, propane, burner, Zatarain's.
Also plan on putting potatoes, corn, mushrooms, sausage, onions, lemons, garlic, etc in the pot (donations of the above are welcome).

What you should bring: Crabs (live), drinks, food for non-shellfish eaters/non hunters, sunscreen, gloves, catch bag, fishing licenses for the area you'll be crabbin'.

The rules:
Diving permitted from Destin to Mobile Bay. Snorklers also permitted to participate.
No catching more crabs than your participating unit will eat (Up to a dozen per person).
Crabs must be kept alive, and taken by hand. No spearing, gigging, powerheads allowed. Learn how to keep crabs alive during transport.
No "berried" crabs (egg-bearing females).
No whole stone crabs, claws must meet legal requirements.
No crabs smaller than your palm (or 5" across the back between points, whichever is less). This is a conservation rule, and not enforceble except by ridicule.

The boiling will commence no later than 3pm, but may be earlier depending on tides/return times.

There may be T-shirts and valuable prizes :D for participants.
  • longest distance travelled (Crabtastic Journey)
  • greatest hunter (Buster Crabb)
  • largest crab (Mongo Crab)
  • crab with the largest claws (Killer Krab)
  • best technique (Crabrico Suave')

Preferred dive center if held in June will be Gary's Gulf Divers (with his permission) for all fills and supplies, due to his support of this board. If held later, it will likely be one of the Destin shops as well, as I'll be staying over there.

Bonus points awarded to anyone who travels to Gulf Shores to dive with me during the week.

I believe the weekend of June 4th, I'll be in Port St Joe, FL. I'll be in TN June 16-18.

June 10th, would be best for me. I'd also be available to dive that day in Gulf Shores/Orange Beach if that makes moving the date any more possible. High Tides on the 10th fall around 10AM, which would make for fresher crabs for a 3PM boil. Comparitively, if we do it on the 4th, any jetty dives will have to be done high tide the previous day's afternoon. The Whiskey does hold some crab, but not nearly as many as the jetties as there is simply much much more 'reef'.

Crap, why do the tides never cooperate?

The problem with the 10th is that I have to be out of the beach house before noon, voiding all of my infrastructure requirements (water, toilet, shade). I'm willing to stay behind, but I'll need to find a spot where I can set up a propane burner.

Gulf State Park? Entry is cheap and there are picnic tables and gazebos(sp?)

I sure hope we can work out a good date for this, I am really looking forward to being able to participate in this event. I am good for almost any weekend aside from the first weekend of every month, unless there is a holiday, then it is the second weekend. I am in the AF Reserve and I have to drill on those weekends but I could reschedule if needed. Anyway you guys come up with a date and I will try to work it in my schedule. Also, do I need to bring tank/tanks or will there be some availabe to rent?
