from other perspective ...pure technicaly ......

- driving 6x 18W leds and then also cooling it ..... hmm I would not design that housing because cooling from thermal source to cooling site is to long - picture from top is possible IMO with cold ( from freezer ) maybe for minute or two , more for sure will melt PCBA , and battery but for sure it has thermal protection inside which act on PWM .... but then search& rescue for few minutes????

- such battery is very high risk at water intrusion ( from explosion in closed but not sealed tank and will act as bomb ) because of Lipo battery choose . I would take LiFePo4 or something much more safety , but it will take more space

- for serious search & rescue it should be chosen canister type with

- LED's are probably driven because of battery spec in series , we have a deal with high currents - up to 6 amps , which need PCB with short and wide tracks close to cooling plate and fat MOSFETs

-weight 1 kg in water on hand .... no thanks

-IP68 ... no thanks

the IP68 rating is only described and not fully specified by means of concrete values in the IEC 60529:

  1. The first digit, the number “6”, means that the instrument has total dust ingress protection.
  2. The second digit, the number “8”, means that the instrument is suitable for permanent submersion in water.
in our case is problem dynamic submersion in water mostly from deep quick to surface - there most of lights made failure ; ( not submerging them to deep )

and bla , bla , bla ......
 
All of the potential technical issues you pointed out seem plausible to me. I also have been considering the “halo” effect of such a wide bright beam, and depending on how much backspl there is it really might have the same effect as using your high beam headlights in dense fog, not sure.

As for search and rescue wanting a real, proven cannister light, I’d generally agree that any serious application (s&r, cave diving, high end photos or videos, etc) would want a light from a proven company to match their needs. However, it’s not a crime or a sin to be a newly founded company, and not all Chinese products are shoddy. I’ve got no problem with a company trying to “break in” by offering a quality product at a lower price.

Now, whether it’s a quality product or not I do not know, but Wurkos is sendinh me one of their small lights to test and review, so at least with that one, I can let you know what I end up seeing. Hopefully it works extremely well, and I’m optimistic, but I’ll give it an honest take either way
 


PS: I work with Chinese automotive front light costumers on daily base as test lab stuff ;-)
Probably is that reason why this kind of articles made me PO ;-)

the future of lighting lies in customisation shape and power of beam not making some light pollution, specially not underwater.
 
@lucca brassi Don't have time to watch that right now, but I'm adding it to my list. Also, if you felt like I was implying like, racism or anything my comment about chinese products, that was not my intention. I've just seen some people turn their nose up at products like say, HOG regulators, strictly because they're "chinesium" and it's just like....dude, your reg's made in china too. But no offense was meant, and frankly you clearly know more about this topic than I do.
