Hello! I am new to the board and have only been diving for 2 years. I am taking a trip to Cozumel in a couple of weeks and would love some advice. NO, A LOT OF ADVICE. We will be staying in a house and I have little idea as to how safe my equipment will be while I"m gone. Which Operators should I look for? Best sites? etc. Having just found this board let me say to all of you......... well done! :D

Try using the search function under Mexcio for dive operators. Many threads to read with good info. Good luck and have a great time.

Welcome to Scubaboard.
A search of the Coz dive ops will tell you everything you need to know.

Glad to see another 'neighbor' join the boards. Actually, there are quite a few of us from the Chicago area. Check out Great Lakes Wrecking Crew here on the board, as well.

Thanks, I'll continue the searching. This board is filled with great stuff. Anyone with info to guide me (with so little time left to learn!) has my thanks in advance. I am so excited :bounce: about this trip!

And welcome to SB. :wavey: Put us in your Favorites and check in often.

But if you want advise here, please read in the Mexico forum until you can narrow your questions down, then ask there. We can't plan your trip for you...

as far as looking for operators, sites, etc... most LDS's plan trips to Cozumel at least once a year, see what they recommend... or call around to other not so local dive shops. I deal with Elmer's Watersports and they visit Cozumel twice a year every year.

Welcome, Like the others have said a search will yield tons of info. As for the gear, most dive shops will allow you to leave it there if you dive with them for a few days. There is always someone around and the shops are locked at night. Over at Playa we left everything hanging outside (Tank Ha) at the end of the day drying, when we returned in the morning it was all inside safe and sound.

Have Fun

My wife and I spent Valentine's Day weekend in Cozumel. It was our first trip also. We had no trouble leaving our gear. There are dive shops on just about every corner. The ones we went into had pretty good packages but some of the rental gear looked questionable. It was a great trip though. The dives were awesome. You will love it.

Thanks for the advice DD. "We can't plan your trip for you..."??? I don't think I ever requested that! I was simply looking for the friendly advice I found after your post. :aeh:

You're certainly correct there, sir. Sorry if I seemed rude, as we don't want to treat new members that way here; We want you to feel comfotabel here first. :54:

Anyway, read the Cozumel posts in the Mexico forum, then let us know if we can help...
