It may be interesting to note at what part of the tide you were diving last night. I'm still trying to figure out why one day vis is good and another day vis is poor. Its hit or miss. I'm assuming right now vis is best 2 hrs to 1 hr after high tide. I'm glad everyone had a great dive. Please keep up the dive activities. Its great to have a regular dive group in this area.

Take care

Chris

Awesome! I was wondering how they went last night. I am glad the weather hasn't been bad yet. :)
Are these spots pretty good in the daytime?

RIOceanographer:
The dives were excellent! Great vis. There were 3 of us Matt, Tim and myself.

Dive 1: Bass Rock Rd in Narragansett (aka 530 Ocean Rd). Some moderate sized waves (2-3ft range). Not too bad. Max depth 28 feet... vis was fantastic probably 20ft. Temp 64F Several good sized lobsters. Some big rock crabs. A nice black sea bass and a monster scup.

Dive 2: A nice easy dive in Narragansett at Pier 5 (aka Monahan's dock to the locals). Temp 63 F, vis just as awesome as dive 1. Max depth a mere 25ft. Saw a TON of lobsters. Many of them keepers. The most keepers I have seen on any dive in RI this year. Just a rough guess, but I probably saw 6-8 keepers. Sadly no RI lobster license this season so they all survived the encounter.

Probably the coolest thing of the dive though, I saw a small squid hit a baitfish and start eating it.

I have to agree with Chris the dives were amazing and the second dive had plenty of keepers.

Sorry I missed it. Ended up going home with slight stomach thing. But I will be up to it next week. aslong as wed isn;t the night....Teaching an EFR/W AED class

I would think that they are. I have never seen them in the daylight, but if they were great at night, they should the same during the day.

Bass Rock Rd. would probably be cool in the daytime but Pier 5 is (for me anyway) a place to visit at night.

Dives were great and had a lot of fun. What day would be good for everyone next week? I was going to start a new thread for a night dive at Beavertail next wednsday but if another night would be better for everyone that's OK with me.

Let me know and I'll start the thread. Chris has gone diving from all the lots except parking lot 1 which I don't think is possible so I'll let him choose which side to go in on.

Which lot sort of depends on the wind direction. Best to pick after we get there and see the conditions.

As for which day... every single night works next week for me.

OK, I'm going to find out which days my wife (Rachael from this point on) is working next week and I'll pick one. If that doesn't work for everyone then we can just change it as needed. I'll post it later.
