Congrats, Charlie!!!

I'll keep my fingers and toes crossed that one or more GSBs join you to celebrate your 100th. Wish I could join in.

Have a great and memorable dive. (Then dive some more!)

Congrats in advance on #100.

Whatever you do, don't dive anywhere near me... I've been skunked this season on GSB sightings. Very unusual. I have seen three of them topside, but none underwater. Of course a month or so ago two swam right past me while I had my back turned to film an ocean whitefish.

Same goes for me - except my "skunkage" goes for my entire diving history. Never seen one at all. I won't even be diving this weekend at all...which probably increases your likelihood that you'll see one by at least 1000%. :wink:

Congrats on your 100th. Be sure to get a photo. Here's my 100th:

If you get shut out, maybe the GSBs will be back in large numbers again on the Star of Scotland in November. Perhaps it will be a great dive for Frank's Big 100.

That would be an awesome dive for Franks 100! :D The history of that wreck has always intrigued me and it has been on my most wanted list in terms of local wreck dives! Frank...hurry up and get to 100!!! :wink:

Charlie sent me this;
Hey Phil! I was the first in the water just as I had planned and I headed to the east towards the suejac where I have always seen big sheephead, but I couldn't find any GSB. When I got out, I heard a bunch of newbie divers talking about how they saw one in 20 feet of water right over the Cousteau monument! Later I talked with Dr. Bill and he shared my sympathies. He has been skunked everytime too this season. One highlight of my 100th dive is I went 70 feet solo, my deepest solo yet. And i saw big old Oscar the sheephead, always impressive. No worries, I will see plenty of gsb on Frank's 100th on the Star of Scottland!

My sympathies to the Catalina vets who have been stood up by GSBs this year. I was there last weekend with a group of newbies making our first dives in California. Needless to say we ran into a very large GSB as we were preparing to wrap up dive #2.

Sadly, it was only in passing, but I managed to get proof before he swam away.
