    Proper weighting

Is it bad or at least undesirable, to be weighed such that you have to actively swim down to submerge? I suppose that it takes more air while descending, but then you need less air in your BCD. That should make staying neutrally buoyant easier. What do you think?

    Too weighted and too buoyant

Advanced, nearly 200 dives. In Malaysia, using lined dive skins. Never had a problem like this. Typically relaxed diver, good air consumption rate. I had to have extra weight to get down, first dive and then more on the next. However, on none of my dives was I able to remain at the safety...

DIR- Generic Weight Plates on Webbing - Considered DIR-friendly?

I have these weight plates that I found on DGX. Quite like them because they stay close to the body (or at least marginally closer than a weight pocket). But are these considered DIR-friendly? Link: Highland Weight Plates - Set of Two

Threading hard weights onto cam band, thoughts?

Does anyone have experience threading their hard weights onto their cam bands instead of using trim pockets? I'm wondering if this would wear out the bands webbing over time? It would probably just be 2-4 1-lb weights every dive.

    New Design No Slip Weights

Hey all. So i've made a new design for weights to eliminate having to use a weight belt keeper. Besides keeping the weight in place on the belt, it also puts more webbing against your body and keeps the belt from wanting to slip. If your interested in any just message me. I'm also going to...

    Trim, Buoyancy and Weight Placement

Question for all the trim gurus out there. I currently use 10lbs total in saltwater. 2 lbs each in my bcd trim pockets (up high on the hydros pro) and two 3 lb weights on my belt. I have a trip coming up in February and want to try to get rid of the belt (its a pain in the ass with a crotch...

Drysuit diving and considering weight belt

Hi all, I am considering adjusting my weight system and would really appreciate some feedback before I spend money! I dive in a drysuit in temperate water (Ohio and Pennsylvania quarries). And while I have my total amount of weight about right (still fine tuning with a new drysuit) my problem...

BCD failed while shore diving in the Phillipines

Hello, I am a relatively inexperienced PADI open water certified diver. I'm sure we probably covered this in the course but I wanted to make sure I had the right solution to the issue I experienced. I shore-dived in Oslob, Phillipines with rented gear and the sea was only about 20 meters...

    Lead, Delivered, $1.30/pound

I just got 50 pounds of reclaimed lead shot for $65. It was sent Priority Mail, USPS. It took about four days to get it from the time I mailed the check. The shooting range it's supposedly from does not allow steel shot so there shouldn't be any (at least not very much) steel in it. They are...

Selling an Oceanic Islander BCD size small. This was my wife's who is 5'6 130lbs. There is quite a lot of adjustment so she was able to wear it with a drysuit and thick wetsuits. It has 25lbs of lift and is a wing style BCD (versus jacket style), which works much better to keep you in a...

Not ditching for fear of losing. Black or NTSB neon inserts?

Hi, I’m new posting on the board. I assist in teaching scientific diving at UC Berkeley, where I’m a graduate student. This post is about a near miss I could see myself making. I don’t think it’s far fetched. It doesn’t involve any accident I know of. I’m just wondering about my gear, and maybe...
