So I have this “integrated SMB” not sure what Aqualung called it but it was mounted underneath the lower dump valve of my older Aqualung Black Diamond BCD (not air integrated at that point just cut out)
It used to be sealed to the pouch…never used it myself but was thinking of replacing the...
Do you guys simply clip the double ended bolt snap through the spool and SMB? Or you do one those loops wrapping around the bolt snap to "lock" it?
I don't see it being an issue as it would probably never detach in my pocket, but I saw someone doing one of those loops even if they're carrying...

This may not be the right forum to ask but would like to know how you can properly inflate your dsmb fully without being towed to the surface when it's only half full.
DUMB IS DSMB AFTER SPELL CHECKER GETS DONE WITH IT LOL. (Mod edit, fixed your title for you)
I was diving Crescent bay in Laguna Beach today (10/6/19) and lost my reel and SMB. Reel is a Highland stainless steel w/orange line and pink Trident SMB. It got knocked off close to shore in the surf.
My husband and I recently got open water certified while vacationing in the Riviera Maya. While there, our instructors had what I believe are SMB's (they looked like tall, skinny, orally-inflated flags that rolled up when not in use). They inflated them right after we descended and pulled them...
what is the current school of thought on the SMB? When to deploy? Topside reaction when a SMB is seen? How many feet of line on the spool? Finger spool or ratchet reel? How many SMPs to carry? Thanks for all input?
I’m buying my first DSMB and upcoming is also GUE Fundamentals so I need the best one. I don’t know which I should choose as the shops near me don’t have all these in stock.
I have read that closed ones are best.
Top ones I have found:
1. Halcyon Slim Big SMB 1.8m / 6ft - for me it will cost...
I just got the Hollis SMS100 and still working out my configuration and looking for suggestions. So I dive Dry with the SMS100 Sidemount BCD and LP Steel 112 tanks. The diving I'm planning will require 1 or 2 deco bottles depending on dive profile etc.
I am trying to decide where to mount the...
I am shopping for my first SMB. Many are weighted, others are not. Are the weights truly effective at helping keep the buoy erect at surface while attached to one's line or is the effect negligible and a waste?
Question for the DIR crowd,
(Without having suit pockets) what is the acceptable method of stowing a SMB and finger spool?
I'm stuck between just clipping it off to my butt D ring or folding it and putting it inbetween my BP and BP pad.
I like the second way I mentioned because it would be...
