    Question Redundant gas when traveling?

I almost exclusively dive back mounted doubles here in Norway, and when I went to Dahab last year I was able to rent doubles, but many places in the world that's going to be tricky. I would prefer having redundant gas and regs in the 60-100ft range, especially when diving with random buddies and...

Recommend Redundant Air Supply Tank Size & Setup for Solo

I'm currently looking into a Redundant Air Supply for recreational diving, and the only thing I'm unsure about is what size of tank to get. I've researched this enough to know to stick to 19cu or above. For Context: Most of my ~35 dives are solo, and around 30-60ft. I'm comfortable at 100ft...

No pony on solo shallow teeth dive?

Hey solo beach divers and Venice tooth divers... do you drag a pony along? We’re talking 18-25 feet here, a short CESA maybe, but a beach hike for sure. I have a hard enough time hiking minimal gear, I’m thinking no pony. Your thoughts?

Which SP reg for a pony, and which to get down and very, very dirty?

Two Scubapro Regs: MK20, S550, Air2 MK2, R395, R395 octo This is really three questions: 1) Given these two regs, which would you make your primary and which make a pony? 2) Given these two regs, would you combine second stages make a setup with a long, or long-ish hose and necklaced short hose...

    Advice on slinging an AL40

I will be diving with the local club in the quarry this weekend, and since temps are projected to be <40F and I'll be without my regular buddy, I'm opting for redundant air. This will be my first time carrying redundant air of any kind, so I'm renting an AL40 setup from the LDS. My BC is the AL...

    MOD Stickers

I am new to technical diving and completed my first tec course and wanted to set up a dedicated Deco bottle or two with MOD stickers. I dive COLD Freshwater and if I'm going to travel to salt water I am not bringing tanks. Where I am typical banked Nitrox is 32% O2 and if I'm going to run a...

    Closed: 40 sidemount pony set

Southern MD. The tank hydro is good to Aug 2020. The regs are a DC1/212 with braided hose long enough to go behind the neck and a 90 deg swivel. I also use an on off switch for staging the bottle (somewhat controversial but can be removed easily). I have a bungie on the neck and the clamp, side...

    Pony 1st stage valve combo

What should one think about these pony valve 1st stage regulator combos, e.g. like these: Drysuit / Deco Bottle First Stages Or like this on the low end: Balance Piston Din First Stage Not sure there is even a manufacturer mentioned. Is that a potentially (for a travelling pony) a worth while...

    How do you carry accessories?

I do some solo diving and therefore carry several items for safety/redundancy. I find that the pockets in the BC (Zeagle Stiletto) are not large enough to pack all the items. I carry several cutting devices including a knife, scissors, and a line cutter, SMB, finger reel, extra dive mask, two...

Anybody come across this thing yet? All in one pony bottle.

So I was trying to decide between mounting or slinging a 13cf pony tank today (I would like to sling it but general opinion seems to be it's too short for that). Anyway, I came across this weird thing. Kind of a cool idea if the system as a whole is reliable. Wondering what folks here think...

Pony Bottle - New User Questions

Hi all I just ordered a 19cuft pony from my local diveshop. It comes with a tank mount bag. I have a few questions 1. Will I need to add trim weights on the other side of my tank to offset the pony? 2. I assume that I will be able to carry less (lead) weights since the pony will now count as...

Diving with a Pony - key tips for a newbie?

I'm a novice diver and have decided to start diving with a pony. Most, if not all, of my diving will be warm water rec diving to 30m. I have my own kit, and recently bought a reg, SPG and sling to travel with. The dive ops I use rent out 3 liter tanks - though I'm toying with the idea of buying...

Open or closed valve on pony bottle?

I was recently told to keep the valve on my pony bottle open so that water can't enter the first stage regulator. Is this right? I keep the valve closed to insure that the pony doesn't have a chance to leak and will be full in case I actually need it.
