Which reg set would you pick?

Codie, I already dive with Cressi gear and my current LDS services with no problem. Cressi S102 BCD Cressi XS + XS Octo + Cressi Guages It's 8 years old now, but never had a single problem with it... I had a look at the Oceanic stuff and it seems quite decent too, just not sure if our...

Which reg set would you pick?

I love the way that hardly anyone on this forum actually answers the question, most just go off on tangents. Anyway, we're on a budget, and I looked at the local pricing and out of the Mares range, I can only afford the MR32 Prestige, Tusa, the 340 I think it is, and then there is the Cressi...

Which reg set would you pick?

Servicing is not a problem. Now back to the question at hand please.

Which reg set would you pick?

I'm busy looking to buy my fiancee her first reg set and we've got a few choices available to us. First is a Cressi Ellipse Titanium/MC7 full kit which we could get as part of a clearance sale of a LDS closing down...The price is 50% of what the set normally costs, and I'm a cressi fan so I...

If you were to buy a second computer...

In Gauge mode the computer is doing just that...acting like a depth/time/temp guage. It doesn't do any of the deco/no deco calculations. As a recreational diver, I've never had need for guage mode, and would only consider using it if I was diving with more than one computer, and even then, I...

    Suunto Stinger VS D4

I have a Stinger and will stick with it. wrt the Deep Stop Algorithm, I don't believe it makes much difference at all. On the D4 it automatically suggests that you do a deep stop while with the Stinger you must remember for yourself to do it.

    Oceanic Prodigy

Well from the little searching I've done, they seem to sell for anything between $100 and $150, so if you could get if for about R800, it could be a good deal (assuming it works and you can replace the battery) Heck, at that price I'd even consider putting it into my console and replacing the...

Where was your first OW dive?

Mine was at Aliwal Shoal. 6" swells, decent current, overcast. I threw up before leaving the boat, and threw up after getting back into the boat...Loved it!!! What an adventure

    Fear of sharks

Growing up, I saw films like Jaws which utterly filled me with fear of sharks, and spending pretty much all my holidays at the coast (South Africa,Durban, South Coast), I heard plenty of stories of swimmers being attacked, I saw the signs warning people not to swim when the rivers were bloated...

Suunto D4 or Mares Nemo Excel?

You sure it doesn't show SI? When my Fiancee was completing her OW, the instructor was using a Nemo Excel and when she asked for the SI for her log book, he just held down one of the buttons and read it off to her. If it's anything like her Nemo Sport, it was the bottom right button.

Run out and buy a Cobra?

Have you not thought about maybe getting a wrist mounted computer instead of hose mounted. Yes, it calculates your consumption etc, but if the computer dies during a dive, you have no info at all, whereas a wrist mounted computer will give you most of the same information while you still have...

Computer transmitter: permanently mounted on the first stage?

A lot of people do leave them permanently mounted, but you might want to consider connecting it too the 1st stage by a short piece of HP hose. This stops people trying to pick up the tank by the transmitter

    Wrist mounted digital compass?

No that I know of. Why would you want a digital compass when analogue compasses are so much more reliable

    Okay...that makes sense. Thanks

    No Steel! Huh? What?? Why???

I agree, but why would they restrict the travel/deco tanks to aluminium when they also state that the primary twins should be steel?

    Not diving related: job relocation

Hey maged_mmh. No, by moderate I meant size-wise, not jeopardizing security in any way. Pretty much all residences in SA are security conscious Well your current lifestyle is pretty typical here, so you won't be giving up anything. Going to CT, there are quite a few beach (rocky shore)...

    Not diving related: job relocation

Hmmm, Well I suppose it depends on how you want to live. If you can give us a better idea of what sort of lifestyle you'd like to live (size of house, car, activities, size of family) we can help you better. As for education...private schooling is really the only option unless you really cannot...
