    What is your best anti-fog?

I can't believe no one has mentioned this product yet: Toothpaste! i usually just use spit or the Catherine Action. But for those of you who must put something in your mask, toothpaste does wonders. Cheers, JE

    750 lb hammerhead

RJTY, Finning is a practice in Asia / SE Asia of catching a shark merely to harvest its fins. because the fishermen can fit more fins into their boat than bodies it is common to discard the body into the ocean. the fins are used for shark fin soup and traditional medicines, among other...

    750 lb hammerhead

Nothing, i was not trying to imply that anyone was for finning. i hope my post did not come across as such. i was just genuinly curious as to why they did not use the shark for something. to discard the body in such a manner seems akin to finning, thus the reference. i am not a deep...

    750 lb hammerhead

Just out of curiosity, why would they bury the body? isn't there something useful to be done with it? even if they ate it, i think it is better than discarding the shark off-hand. or put it back in the sea where it will be eaten by other creatures. at least make use of what you kill...

    Cyklon 2nd stage ?

If they are a disease, i've definitely got it. (caution, i think it's contagious.) The second stages are not exactly the same. although close enough you wouldn't be able to see a difference. You should be able to use the 300 seconds on a 5000 first without any problems. However, the 300...

    Recall divers ?

One way, that was used by a friend of mine on some dives, was just to rev the boats engines. because we were usually the only boat on the site, if you heard the reving of a boat in a pattern, then you knew it wasn't a passing boat, but a recall. never was called back because of visibility...

Should rain delay a planned dive?

in some cases you also have to consider the effect the rain runoff will have on visibility. Whether it is still worth making a dive at that particular site if the vis is going to be degraded. as to the sea itself, i would consider the winds effect on it more than the rain. Cheers, JE

    IDC's in Thailand

I may be wrong, but doesn't SSI require an instructor to be attached to a Dive Shop in order to certify anyone? so, for any SSI instructor course to state that they have 100% employment is kind of a moot point. As any of their graduates must be employed by a Dive Shop in order to utilise their...

    Worthwhile diving in Moorea?

I've never had a problem there because of the language. Most ppl speak english, or at least a little. If all else fails resort to the International Language of Charades. In any case everyone that i have encountered there has been very friendly and patient with those that don't speak french...

    Worthwhile diving in Moorea?

While diving in Moorea you're always surrounded by sharks. mostly black tip and white tiip reef sharks. there are a few lemons, and at certain sites there are grey reef sharks. So be sure you're comfortable with that. there is also the regular multitude of tropical marine life. quite a few...

    Worthwhile diving in Moorea?

Mantasscareme, i've dove Moorea many times and have racked up around 40 - 45 dives on that island alone. i can't say enough good about the diving there. great dive sites, great dive shops, wonderful visibility, marine life, etc. if you plan to travel more of French Polynesia, the company...

Diver's death ruled 'human error' accident

Snowbear, the article states the cause of death at Hypoxia/anoxia. Hypoxia is too little oxygen in the blood and anoxia is no oxygen at all. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anoxia JE

Diver's death ruled 'human error' accident

Too true, jagfish. but i can't imagine that a medical examiner could really provide any information on the workings / misworkings of the rebreather. they just wouldn't have the knowledge of rebreathers. i think the best they could do would be 'human error'. though for those of us who have...

    "Resort Course" Worth my time???

I say go for it. It's a great way to get you in the water to see if you really enjoy SCUBA. I also liked the suggestion of doing a referral course. that's another great way to go. either way i think you're going to get hooked. Cheers, JE
