    Where to go next

Hi All. Looking for advice for our next dive trip. We are a couple, rescue dive certified with about three to four hundred dives. We have dove all over the Caribbean, have dove Fiji (Bligh Strait), Philippines, and lastly Lembeh Strait (which was of course, my favorite) I really enjoy seeing...

    Silk Air and luggage concerns

Be aware that the Silk Air baggage increase did NOTHING for divers. They added 10 extra kilo in Economy but got rid of the extra baggage allowance for scuba equipment. They also increased the price per kilo overage fees (from $8/kilo to $10/kilo). We flew out of Singapore last week to Manado...

Best Fins for leg cramps AND dealing with current

HI All, Thought I'd give an update. Just dove 9 days at KBR in Lembeh -- 21 dives total - Not a single leg cramp using my original biofins!! (a bit of back spasms on and off but I am only 4 months out from my back surgery so can't complain.) Will try to put a trip report up in the Indonesia...

    Silk Air and luggage concerns

Hi All, My husband and I will be traveling on Silk Air from Singapore to Manado. We understand that Silk Air allows an extra 10 kg for dive gear, but want to get some clarification of how this works. (We have tried calling them several times with no good answers). Do they weigh (our potential...

    lavacore options

I will be diving in Cozumel in February and was looking for a core warming option under my 5mm Henderson Hyperstretch. I tend to chill easily and dry suits are not an option. I am also not interested in a hooded vest (very sensitive neck and don't like anything super tight around it). I have...

    Dive ops handling wetsuits

This has been an interesting thread to read although I am coming into it very late. I have to admit I was very surprised to find that most of the dive shops in Cozumel will not take care of my dripping wet suit. I guess I have never dove anywhere that didn't have facilities for me to rinse it...

Best Fins for leg cramps AND dealing with current

HI All, I'm now about 8 weeks out from surgery and doing physical therapy to strengthen my core muscles. I've already noticed a large difference in general leg strength and I have just started being able to exercise -- swimming in the pool, mild cardio, etc. I am very curious whether the leg...

Best Fins for leg cramps AND dealing with current

Thanks for all the warm thoughts. I am about 5 weeks out from a L2/3 laminectomy with a 1cm tumor removed from my spinal cord. I start physical therapy next week and have an exciting trip to Lembeh scheduled for November that we are still planning for. I am hoping my leg strength improves now...

Best Fins for leg cramps AND dealing with current

Thanks for all the advice. I appreciate it. Looks like the problem was a bit more complicated than I had hoped -- going to have neurosurgery on the spinal cord tumor they found causing my leg weakness -- hopefully some of the strength will come back and my fin choice won't matter as much.

Best Fins for leg cramps AND dealing with current

I appreciate all of the responses. I did see a neurologist last week and confirmed that I do have a problem with the strength in the muscles of my thighs (being worked up). So if I am unable to increase strength, does anyone have any suggestions of the best fins to use to maximize the power...

Best Fins for leg cramps AND dealing with current

I am looking to possibly replace my current fins (Apollo BioFins). I have been having leg cramps almost every dive. I also struggle in current others can deal with more easily. I can't seem to get my leg strength up (have always had trouble with stairs/ladders esp with gear on -- have to use my...

What do you or your lady friends use as BCD and regulators please?

I am going through these same issues myself. I am a bit shorter at only 5' 2" and about 120 lb. I have dove with a Diva for the last 10 years and have been very happy with it. The only problem is that it is heavy compared with other BC's for travel -- which is the only way we dive. After...

Diving at Beaches Turks and Caicos

My husband and I dove at Beaches T and C last year as part of a family trip. We were able to "buddy dive" just the two of us after one ititial dive with one of their dive masters. The prereqs were Advanced cert or higher and each person having their own dive computer. We usually got a quick...

    First Trip to the Philippines

I think Tubbataha would have been a really nice choice IF we had thought about this sooner --- we would likely most enjoy the Azores and this is completely booked up. With that in mind, I think we have settled on the two Atlantis resorts with 6 days at each as our first Phillipines experience...

    Tubataha liveaboards

It looks like we are going to stay land-based this trip (no availability on choice liveaboards and even if there was, our dates would have only left a couple of days on either side of liveaboard). Thanks for all the advice everyone. Assuming our land based trip goes well, perhaps we will plan...

    Tubataha liveaboards

We are going to the Philippines in April next year and are now considering a liveaboard to Tubataha. I think we are likely to run into availability issues and I have also heard that some companies are far better than others. As we explore the likely limited availability over mid April, can...

    First Trip to the Philippines

Thanks for the info. We just booked our air so now are desperately searching for where to stay and dive. I would love to do a day or two at Donsol to snorkel with whale sharks. The Atlantis at Dumaguete looks nice too. Malapascau looks very cool but the reviews are very mixed on the Exotic...

    First Trip to the Philippines

I am looking for advice of where to dive in the Philippines. My husband and I are looking to go for about 10 days in mid-April. We are moderately experienced divers (rescue cert with 200-300 dives). We have dove all over the Carribean and Mexico and enjoyed Fiji (Bligh waters) last year. Any...

    Looking for first Liveaboard

I am considering my first liveaboard experience and am looking for some advice. My husband and I have dove all over Mexico and the Carribean and recently went to Fiji. I have avoided liveaboards due to the fact that I get seasick. I seem to have this under fairly good control lately with...
