“Duty of Care” when taking others on personal vessel, to dive

My understanding is that it's not always completely an individual's choice to sue or not to sue. If they need to use their insurance for treatment, for example, the insurance might basically force their hand to sue. This is how you get apparently silly situations like family suing one another...

Unknown Dive Talk Accident Review with Gareth Lock

This felt to me more like Woody and Gus processing out loud with Locke as a supportive listener, rather than Locke acting as a consulting expert. Probably because of the ratio of talk time. From what Locke said at the end though, supportive listening but asking tough questions may a purposeful...

    Trip Insurance Recommendations?

This is super helpful! Do you get this in addition to DAN, or instead of DAN? I live in a state where DAN doesn't cover emergency evacuation as part of the insurance I can buy, which makes me nervous. But I was never able to find a reasonable alternative either.

Roatan and Utila, first trip to the Bay Islands

Roatan: this is based on West End and West Bay because that's what I'm somewhat familiar with: There are a ton of dive shops, some associated with resorts and some not. But people not staying at the resort will still come dive with a resort dive shop if they like it. I'm pretty sure most of the...

    Neck Travel pillow (Airplane rides)

Trtl is where I ended up. It's not amazing but it's easily better than anything else I've tried.

Bring Brand New Gear on Vacation?

I don't have reasonable access to local diving and I used my new gear for the first time while traveling. I knew and trusted the divemasters and told them it was all new gear - they checked it out for me and kept a close eye on me - and had extra weight handy that I did end up needing. If...

Inexpensive Primary Light for Rec Diving

Contact Orcatorch Ashley Lee <outdoorequipmentexpert@gmail.com>, they are looking for people to test flashlights and compensating the cost - for Amazon/social media reviews. I am bringing one light from them on my next trip and psyched to try it. I found out about it on this site. Need testers...

    AQUALUNG HydroFlex 3mm Wetsuit

It's great to support your local diveshop, but Scuba.com is great for trying on stuff and free returns. And it is also a local diveshop for a bunch of people if that makes you feel better. That said, a road trip for wetsuit shopping sounds pretty fun, and you should probably do it.

Resorts to take non-divers to in Roatan

Las Rocas? I loved it for years before I learned to dive, and my family does snorkeling there. It's at the end of West Bay beach and a bit secluded from the cruise traffic, with a little strip of beach, a small saltwater pool, great restaurant, and absolutely lovely staff.

    OrcaTorch 710D

Speaking of new batteries... I just got a D710 and I'm excited to try it underwater. But I want to get extra batteries for multi-dive days. The OrcaTorch 21700 batteries only seem to be sold a few places and the cost is over $40, and meanwhile I'm seeing other brand 21700 batteries for prices...

    Wetsuit you love!!!

I tried on a handful of suits at my local shop and the Henderson was the best fit for me, and the Neosport by Henderson was second best. I think this is very individual. I had read great reviews of other wetsuits but once they were on, it was just clear they wouldn't work well for me.

Alternative to gloves for keeping hands warm?

Coming back for a semi-update. I did get a doctor's notes, though I ended up not trying to use it. The summer diving was much easier than the winter diving. But actually what really worked was that I had got a flashlight! I thought it would be nice for seeing more colors and helping me focus on...

Alternative to gloves for keeping hands warm?

Pogies look brilliant! I like the idea of being able to keep my handsfree when I want as well. The old wetsuit arm could also work great - I had started looking at those neoprene elbow/knee braces, but the wetsuit arm is already made to fit around hands. I would have to find an old wetsuit to...

Alternative to gloves for keeping hands warm?

I have been diving there before so even though it's hot, I know that I can still get cold. I have added warm stuff on my feet and a vest that helped a lot. I've been resisting the head coverings because my head is crazy picky and I can't tolerate anything constraining - I basically have to wear...

Alternative to gloves for keeping hands warm?

NW Dive Dawg, I love the idea of stealth flesh colored gloves! Marie13 - thinking about muffs makes me wonder!! What about... flaps on the sleeves of wetsuits! Half the time I'm diving with my arms crossed over and hands resting on opposite elbows/forearms - there totally could be pockets...

Alternative to gloves for keeping hands warm?

I am diving in the Roatan marine park, where gloves are not permitted. But my hands do get cold. Are there any alternatives or suggestions for helping keep my hands warm? Thank you!

Are there people who just CANNOT dive?

I have a very hard time learning dance moves for what sound like similar reasons. I can eventually get it, it just takes me much longer than everyone else to get it into my muscle memory. If being in the water is something you enjoy, then I think it would be worthwhile to keep trying. Maybe...

    Breast Cancer Survivors?

Hi :) I had breast cancer in 2018 and I just started diving this February. I love it so much, but I hadn't really connected it to cancer. I had just a lumpectomy and radiation though, no chemo.
