I haven't seen the LDS named anywhere in this post and can only see that Pete is only trying to help the shop and it's customers. Nice job though in trying to pot him with your assumptions.
I use the toothpaste method but have found you need to also wash the skirt thoroughly as well. I usually wash then allow to dry and repeat this process twice. I will also spit in my mask and rinse before every dive and have no problems.
I was diagnosed with a PFO in October last year after a trip to Vanuatu diving the President Coolidge. I have been diving since 1992 and had no problems until I started doing decompression dives. I was a bit aware on that trip as a previous trip to Truk Lagoon in 2010 I also showed symptoms...
Oceanic had a problem with the back light failing on the Atom 1 computers. I know as I had one, I mentioned this to my LDS at the time where I bought it from and they told me of a recall and it was replaced free of charge.
I have dived with an Oceanic Atom since 2005 and have never had a problem. The only thing that frustrates me is as I'm getting older it's getting damn hard to read the small display.
My local dive shop sells and pushes oceanic but my last two set ups were Scubapro. I still have my oceanic regs and they are good regs, but I prefer the scubapros, and I know a local tech whom I trust who services scubapro.
Wow Pete, that really puts a downer on your trip. I'm sure I'll hear more about on the way to Santo and hope we don't encounter any similar problems with our flights.

yes it does do nitrox.
Good choice Peter, I dived Truk a few years ago in my trusty Billabong 3mm steamer and found it to be perfect. I have also dived the GBR on a few occasions with it as well, enjoy your trips.
I have an atom 2 and before that an atom 1. The reason I have the 2 is there was a fault with the back light which stopped working and Oceanic replaced the computer free of charge. I opted for an upgrade to the 2 as it was only a couple of hundred to upgrade and the fact that on the atom 1 you...
Loss of Decompression gas
If a loss of one or more decompression-gasses should occur, the diver has several options:
·Switch to backup gas and run a contingency schedule
·The diver may wait until a team member has completed their decompression and if sufficient deco gas remains, breathe...
Fortunately, there is a simple and very conservative method of reserve gas planning that takes into account multiple failures and typically produces adequate reserves to cover most contingency plans. The following method assumes that divers are not in an overhead environment and it produces a...
Hey Semo the dates you have mentioned are in the cyclone season and also gets lots of rain during that period. June through to September is much nicer with way less humidity as well.
Had a dive buddy do a similar thing, he didn't realize he had lost it until we were unloading the boat back at the dive shop. He was lucky though as we dove the same site the following day and one of our group managed to find it. Hopefully you have the same luck.
I have used an AI for the last 19 years and find it a useful tool. I started out with a console and in 2005 moved to a wrist because I wanted to get rid of the extra hose and dangly bit. I have never had a failure and find them to be very reliable. I hear this argument all the time but if you...
