    Tracking Nitrogen in Tec Diving

Can you give us a scenario? Are you asking about an emergency situation? In that case you would have to have blown your profile, your contingency profile(s), had dual computer failure (primary and backup). Not outside the realm of possibilities but that would be a rare situation. It's still...

    Coron Questions?

2nd on Discovery Divers. Gunter is awesome. I wrote a piece on the diving we did there the first time we went. Yes the Akitsushima and some others sit in deep (40M-ish) water but just make sure and dive to your abilities. I would get wreck certified before you go but you will have guides...

How to carry SMB, so that it can be re-stowed?

I have two loops on the bottom of my backplate or transpac where I roll up the bag and secure the bag. Keeps it out of the way and can be re-stowed.

Why is it so difficult to find a PADI tec rec instructor?

Don't know any personally - the ones I know are actually TDI (nothing against the agency - just is what it is). My point is that even if the training program is perfect and processes are in place to assure quality, people are people (I just finished a SOI 3 audit with the FAA so maybe I am...

Why is it so difficult to find a PADI tec rec instructor?

I totally disagree with this. Regardless of the agency, there are yahoos out there that have been pencil whipped into being instructors. Instructor first, agency second in my opinion...............

What is the essential gear for an Ocean Wreck Dive?

It sounds like maybe you're asking more about what should one have in their Drift Kit than for a wreck? For a wreck - assuming no penetration - I would say Gloves, 2 cutting devices (fishing line and other items tend to snag on wrecks), Drift Kit, Light and back-up light... OH - and a good...

    Silt out diving?

I totally agree. It's good to dive low viz for when you get silted out in a wreck. That way you don't freak out.

    Silt out diving?

I dive these solo since there is no way to communicate in those conditions rather than arm squeezes. I have support divers but it is just me down there at the bottom. Not a good situation but we would like to bring closure to the families. We have suspended the search down there for the time...

    Silt out diving?

We have been looking for a guy in a local lake at 270ffw. Down there it's black and once you start digging, there is zero viz. I have to use a timer to let me know time is up while I am headbutting trees, snagging on rebar and getting lost in debri since it is where they blew up the old dam...

    Double LP85's or HP100 - Diving Wet-Steel Backplate

In all of your chest pumping, you have missed my very simple point. I sometimes make my choice between LP or HP based upon the efficiency of crossing over from AL80s if that is the situation in a remote area (no compressor on the boat). We can go round and round about numbers all day but my...

    Double LP85's or HP100 - Diving Wet-Steel Backplate

Okay, according to tbone math then if you breathe 25 cuft from a full set of HP100's and then crossover from an AL80 with 3000psi in it, how much air will you wind up with in the 100s? Not sure why you are taking this so personally but maybe you're just 'that guy'

    Double LP85's or HP100 - Diving Wet-Steel Backplate

You are correct - math is not your strong suit. HP vs LP on a crossover. This is about the equalization of pressure. The most basic example of this would be if you have LP95 doubles at 2640 and HP100s at 3442. Breathe 25cuft out of each Now you have 2293 in the LPs and 3012 in the HPs...

    Double LP85's or HP100 - Diving Wet-Steel Backplate

One thing that the OP asked that we haven't touched on much is HP vs LP. Each has its place. If I am diving in a remote area we sometimes have to top off via crossover from AL80's. In this case the LP tanks have an advantage since you can get closer to a full fill than an HP tank. I have...

Bolt Snap for Regulator with thick dry gloves?

My suggestion - go to the local hardware store and buy an assortment of snaps, put your gloves on and give them a try. What works for others won't necessarily be the best for you. I like trigger snaps for my deco regs because they are easy to work with gloves.

    Tech Diving Locations

I know you asked about the SE U.S. but there are places like the Philippines where, even though it is expensive to fly there, it is dirt cheap to stay, eat and - oh yeah - DIVE! In Subic Bay they have wrecks from 70fsw to 230fsw and they are intact and not artificial reefs. I can actually...

No more Liquivision - What are you using

That is just what every computer I have always used had. As stated previously, I could work with 5 obviously.

No more Liquivision - What are you using

After talking with LV more, I don't care about OLED given that the prediction for an OLED can be as low as 4 years. I am just concerned about readbility in low light and low viz conditions.

No more Liquivision - What are you using

I think they look just as good so in their case I'm looking for clarity at depth. I remember having to sneak up on My Nitek with the light when diving in low light conditions.

No more Liquivision - What are you using

Good feedback. I love that new Suunto EON Steel unit if it weren't for the facts that it is Air integrated, $1400 and a Suunto. Otherwise it looks fun!

No more Liquivision - What are you using

True - is see they have 5. That is certainly enough. They certainly have some nice products! I saw the Nitek Q. I used to use and love my Nitek He years ago and loved it except for the display. Anyone try the NitekQ?
