    Ice diving in Norway?

Hi all, I'll be in Norway in February, and have already scheduled a tech wreck excursion to Gulen. Are there places in Norway where I can be certified as an Ice Diver? I found an old article (2006) which mentions Arctic Adventure Dive Centre, Kirkenes. I've seen the website and I don't know if...

A warning to all who ride cabs in Manila (blog article)

Back to the topic. From what I've read on this thread about the blogger, she may look average but I think that engaging taxi drivers in conversations opens you up to being judged on how naive and stupid you are. Hence the fact that she's constantly being victimised. I take taxis at all hours...

New dive shop? ( Koh Tao Diving Adventure)

Hi guys, I'll be in Koh Tao this friday and I've decided to try the above mentioned dive shop. Has anyone tried this outfit out? I can't seem to find any reviews while searching on Google. Although based on Alex's emails and the fact that he asked what my dive history was, I decided to go...

    Bail-out the diveleader?

Going back to the topic... :) I didn't really have to bail out the DM but he was acting as a guide so I did my own thing with respect to the briefing (dive time, etc) but going down deeper than he wanted and still respecting the dive time and safety stop. I've also had the chance of hauling up...

At what depth to deploy DSMB

Around here we use them every time we surface. So the chaser boat can see you and so that other boats can see you and don't run you over (hopefully, though I've had an experience where a big bangka ran over my DM's smb...) I always have mine with me even if my buddy has one as well just in...

    Anilao, Philippines 12/26-30

May I ask what lens you used and how many strobes you have? I'm guessing 2 strobes? I just started doing underwater photography :)

    Master.........Really?

I agree that it's how you dive that matters and who cares what c card you have. I'm halfway through the requirements for my MSD (still have to do nitrox and rescue) and then I'll be taking tek. After that I'm planning on doing dry suit diving in cold environments in BC and then in Alaska...

    Newbie question

just relax and have fun :) it's not timed and you're in a pool. I had to tread water for 3 mins and then do the 200m swim to shore in the ocean with weights and no fins with people watching me from shore. Like everyone here has stated, it's to see how comfy you are in the water...

    Are triggerfish this aggressive?

I learned to stay away from them during their breeding season which is July and August (in Sabang, Phils) after I was chased by one and my instructor had to fight it off using his metal reel. Otherwise, if it's not their breeding season I like watching them and think they're really pretty...

    scared much?

Though I'm not as nervous as you, I usually look at plankton or jellies or any other small (teeny tiny) animals that swim by in the deep blue to pass the time... I dive in the Philippines so I don't know what animals there are to look at in the blue over there but here I get entertained by the...

Please aid me in my pursuit of purchasing gear

When I got my OW I knew right then and there I wanted to go all the way up to tek so I bought a halcyon aluminum bp with wing (only brand available here). Reason for the aluminum is the travel weight, and I don't want to break my back during shore entries with a 6lb steel backplate with steel...

1st question from diver in training

You guys may kill me for this but I take a sip of salt water when my throat gets really dry... swallowing will make me cough uncontrollably underwater so I'd rather take a really small sip of salt water than drown... This happens not as often as it used to though so no biggie :) Drinking water...

Dumbest things you've seen a newbie diver do

Hi guys! I've been reading all 35 pages and learned a few things and I especially agree with what someone said about diving being routine oriented. I'm relatively new and I'm also guilty of going in and then realising my bottle wasn't on (that was exciting... I though my reg broke) and being so...

    July Recommendations (Puerto Galera?)

Hi Andy, I'm doing my dive courses in Sabang, puerto galera right now so I'm there every month. I always stay at the Sabang Oasis hotel run by Mr. Peter Loder and his wife Viola. It's a really clean and safe hotel that's not too far from the main strip. I dive with the people at Cap'n...
