Yep, definitely affects the cable link. I am having the same low battery issues (even with Sony batteries - plan to send for service after dives next week). Just changed the battery and am able to connect again. Tried for 30 minutes previously with no success.

Another strobe that is a good match for the E-PL1 is the S&S YS-01. I have 2 and they work great. Nice small size for packing, fast recycle, focus light, and TTL.

I bought the E-PL1 with the 14-150 zoom lens (not for UW use, obviously), and just bought the mk. II kit lens. I *think* there is a kit with the 9-18 also, which is great UW with the Zen dome port.
