58 and I've earned every wrinkle! Republic of Panama (warm water!) Caribbean, Pacific, wherever I get a chance - Going to the Red Sea in June Panama Dive Adventures IDC Staff Instructor - I've been diving since 95, but I became an instructor last year! I finally found out what I wanted to be...

    PADI Diver Question

If he can demonstrate the skills required to begin the Rescue Diver Course, the PADI instructor is allowed to use his prior experience as a basis for that class. Then, go ahead and take the Rescue Diver course, you'll learn some new skills, and that new card will be the one you show and since...

    Stamina Skills

Well, I'm 58 and was able to do it, so I'm sure you can, too. The 400m was the toughest for me, not the distance, but the time! I do the breast stroke, really slowly. The sidestroke is the kick that the military teaches for a rescue stroke. It's better if you can do it on both sides, but, I...

    Calf Cramps

My doctor suggested Calcium-Magnesium supplements. It was hard to find Cal-Mag, I kept seeing Calcium + D, but I live in the tropics and don't really need the D. But the Cal-Mag were such horse pills, I couldn't stand it. So, I suffice with Calcium supplements and Magnesium supplements. I...

    Where to go?

I just did mine in Utila, Honduras. There are several IDC's there, but Utila Dive Center is the biggest one. They "guarantee" passing. It's relatively inexpensive there. The whole Island seems like one large youth hostel. I was happy. I passed!:D

    another question

The "crew pack" for the Divemaster comes with that CD. If you don't have it, ask your instructor if you can use his CD for his instructors manual to become familiar with where the standards are located and how to find them easily.

    Asthma and Diving

My doctor is fine with me diving as long as I take my medication. I did tell him that if I don't take my medicine, both pill and inhaled steroids, I need my rescue inhaler occasionally. He wrote that diving is fine if I take my medicine on the form. Since that's not a real restriction, no one...

    Stamina Skills

I agree with Crowley that the stamina tests are important if you want to be a professional diver. You are responsible for other people's safety as well as your own. I've just always had trouble with being timed. The Instructor's Exam doesn't time the 800 m snorkel/fin. Why do you have to...

    Stamina Skills

I'm really having a hard time getting my speed up to a level where I can get enough points! I had a shoulder injury years ago and the doctor said I shouldn't do freestyle. So, I do the breast stroke. Believe me, even when I try the freestyle, it's not as fast as my breast stroke. But I can...

    Old dog, New tricks...

I have been lurking on the Board for the last year or so, and have finally decided to get serious about this! I am just finishing up my DM course and I'm looking at different places for my IDC. I retired to Panama and I love the warm water! I just can't get these old bones into a dry suit. I...
