any info on moosehead lake (Maine) dive spots?

I think the tour steamer is the Katahdin, and it's in downtown Greenville. You can't miss it, as it's the largest thing on the waterfront. I don't know if they've shut down for the season now but they offer trips during the summer. It's a pretty cool thing to see. Contact Gene at All Resource...

    Ice diving

This whole conversation illustrates the idea that a diver needs to take responsibility for their own dives and actions. I personally think PADI is all about the money and not the training. I can say this due to experience with "buddies" who have had PADI training. Any diver who doesn't dive...

    Diving around Alex Bay.

There's a cool eco-div trail off of Clayton. I think it's appropriate for a newbie. Call Hunt's Dive Shop in Clayton for more info. I like the Vickery but it isn't a beginning dive.

    NJ Quarry

mtamborra- Try Willow Springs, just west of Reading. It's visibility is as good as Dutch, if not better, and it's never as crowded. I got certified there and always enjoyed it.

    Suggestions for warm-weather non-beach-goer trip

Try Playa Del Carmen in Mexico. You can dive in the ocean and in cenotes for a different experience. I was there a couple of years ago and while I didn't do it, some people in my party toured around to interesting historical sites and such. Shouldn't take you too long to get there, either, as...

    David Swain Guilty of MURDER

The civil trials and criminal trials always seems like double jeopardy to me, even though in this case there were different jurisdictions. I happened across the NBC docu-drama on this a couple of weeks ago and it was interesting. Is there any news on the appeals process?

    AOW in Central MA?

Go for it. Don't worry about the people who say you need a drysuit. I've been diving in NE for ten years, year-round, without a drysuit. I tried a drysuit and I sweat so much that it wasn't worth it. In my opinion, you don't ever need a dry-suit to dive dutch. I dove there a lot in college and...

Dive Report & NEED HELP to ID rudder found in Dublin Lake (Dublin, NH) Sept. 19, 2009

EGad, Something just occurred to me after reading your post. We were taught, and taught ourselves, how to steer a boat with the sails just in case of a rudder loss. Not easy or fun so I rarely practice it but I remember the basic jist of it.

Dive Report & NEED HELP to ID rudder found in Dublin Lake (Dublin, NH) Sept. 19, 2009

I just had another thought. O'Day makes training boats that have tillers that are somewhat similar. I think it could be an older version of a 420. I used to teach sailing at a camp that had a bunch of old 420's from a university that sold them cheap because they were upgrading their fleet. The...

Dive Report & NEED HELP to ID rudder found in Dublin Lake (Dublin, NH) Sept. 19, 2009

After a little digging, check out the tillers for 420's or maybe even a Zuma. Are there any summer camps on the lake?

Dive Report & NEED HELP to ID rudder found in Dublin Lake (Dublin, NH) Sept. 19, 2009

As for the tiller, I think it's either from a Laser II, or other racing class boat. It's not from a sunfish. How big is it? Also, are there any retention systems on the mounting pegs, like holes for a clip?

What kind of car do you use in the winter in Ma?

I like driving 5-speeds. I feel like you have better control and makes you more involved with driving, something I think people need more of. As for the Subaru automatics, I've heard bad things about them from Subaru fans. I've never had one because of their reputations. Maybe Subaru fixed them...

What kind of car do you use in the winter in Ma?

Do yourself a favor and find a mid-to-late 90's Subaru Legacy Wagon, 5-speed with AWD and a 2.2L bullet proof engine. You'll save yourself a tremendous amount of money and you can average 30mpg if you drive responsibly. You'll replace the occasional CV axle but it will let you know well ahead of...

    David Swain Guilty of MURDER

This is very interesting and thanks to everyone for sharing. Please correct me if I'm wrong but isn't the US justice system based on the British judicial system, ie, jury trials, etc.? Thanks again, especially the law types from both the US and Britain who have shared. Let's hope justice is...

I'm not familiar with the area but the towns down there seem to have issues with divers. Is there a reason for this?

    Considering Moving to Maine

There's some interesting fresh water diving too, in Moosehead and some other places. Nothing compared to the Great Lakes or St. Lawrence. Eastport can't be beat, worth the drive.
