    Hawaiian Seahorse

You can see them on North Shore (I know where, just not saying here). They are not rare per se, just difficult to find due to their excellent camouflage.

    Diving in Maui this October

I don't know anything about LD, but a steel 72 does not hold much less air than an Al 80 (which is actually holding around 77-78 cu. ft). So your remark about this being a way to give shorter dives does not really stand up. In practice, that extra few cubic feet is going to be trumped by many...

    Diving near Bangkok?

Thanks for the info, pretty much echoed what I'd read. Not going to expect anything spectacular, but it's just a business trip so this is basically bonus, plus it's at least some different stuff to see since I've never dove over there. Decided to email Adventure Divers after reviewing reviews...

    Diving near Bangkok?

I'll be in Bangkok next week for about a week for work. Travel plans still a bit tentative but probably will only have one day to go diving and realize Bangkok is not exactly the best, but would like to get wet anyway. Don't plan to take my rebreather, not worth it for one day of diving. If I...

    TONGA advices anyone?

Not diving related, but I would recommend going to 'Eua if you have time. Ferry from Tongatapu. Hike down to the south tip of the island and the center. Karst and wild horses. Incredible.

    Some last minute help

Not sure about sea life, but several shops have intova stuff. I never dive with a flag, but you'll need a spool or just a piece of line, depending on the dive. Only time I see people use them are with boats and people doing classes.

Dive Gear for sale on Oahu

If your sale of the al40 or spools/cave arrows don't go through I'm interested

Oahu - Open Water/Rescue Dive Sites?

Three Tables is nice because it's gets fairly deep quick, and you don't have to carry your gear far from the car :)

    Fish ID Help

I've seen them on North Shore of Oahu also. Very weird the first time you see them! Definite WTF moment.

    Oahu, Hawaii rebreather club

If this led to rebreather-only boat charters I'd be interested.. otherwise I think it's neat but not really sure what the benefit is?

    first DLSR

Oh no! I didn't want to depress you. Reality is that DSLRs are expensive though - certainly moreso than just the housing. If you enjoy it.. just think of it as an investment? Most of the bits have good resale if you take care of them. The ports are like lenses in the sense that they don't...

    first DLSR

The cost savings between the D5100 and the D7000 are negligible relative to the thousands you're going to be spending on ports, extension rings, domes, housing, lenses.. etc.. E.g. off the top of my head. D7000 - $1200 Aquatica/S&S Housing - $2500-3000 Macro Port - $500 Wide Angle Port -...

    Good deal? I *think* so...

Not a fan of the 18-200. Not wide enough when I want a real wide angle. Not fast enough/enough reach for most things I'd shoot with a telephoto. Too slow for the sort of shots I want to do at normal lengths. Mediocre optical quality overall. That said, I understand why many people like it...

    Waterproof books for deco

Has anyone tried out these waterproof books? DURABOOKS Certainly not the hugest selection.. but could be worthwhile on a really long deco.. I'm the sort of person that will reread things over and over anyway if I have nothing else to do.. Obviously they're more intended for the beach/tub...

    Looking For High Res Images...

You can always browse flickr. Lots of great stuff on there. Not to knock the well-known "pros" (don't care for that term) but there are many talented people out there. I've been asked a few times if my photos could be published for non-profit/research purposes and have always been happy to do...

Rebreather Question from a non-rebreather user

What does "safe" mean anyway? People always want things to be safe but they don't quantify that. I think it's a stupid question to ask if something is safe. Eating many foods is not safe. Drinking alcohol is not safe. Are knives safe? What about my hammers? Are they safe? I gouged my foot the...

    Maui Bottom Temp Check

In open water there is no thermocline relevant to diveable depths in Hawaii.. so the water is basically 75-ish year-round.. everywhere in the islands.. Shallow waters that don't have good outflow will warm up a bit but not substantially.. these waters are generally not relevant to diving...

HOG Regulators - Do you still love them?

Getting back on topic, has anyone here taken HOG regs really deep? I'm talking like 300 feet.

"Drifting Dan" Carlock wins $1.68 million after being left at sea

I like how many are so willing to ignore the fact that they signed him in TWICE when he was NOT there either time. Most of the other comments in here are speculation, irrelevant, or ridiculous (e.g. solo divers on cattle boats are asking for it - loved that one). Bottom line, whoever signed him...
