Need weight bag recommendations - non diver

You can get something fancy, or you can get something like this canvas mechanic's bag available at surplus stores. Ten years and going strong, mind you only fresh water. Akona makes a nice weight bag and our shop uses the Akona bags for the rental weights.

Stupid question: What is this strap on the back of my BC?

If you wish, you can "tighten" it up around the tank valve once you have the BCD placed where you like. From then on, simply use the strap over the valve as a reference for where you want the BCD to sit on the tank. Nothing too special about it.

Can drysuits be refitted / downsized? Any drawbacks of this?

That's how we do it here. Most students opt to do their OW dives in dry suits. Learn to dive in what you will be using. It's all new to them anyway, so to them it's "just the way it is".

No garage, no hose. I live in apartment. Caring for equipment?

I live in an apartment. Gear is cleaned/rinsed in a shower, a bathtub, or the kitchen sink. Been doing that since we moved from the house. We do have a storage locker, 10'x5', enough to hang dry suits, BCDs, etc, while drying. Then it's all put away in tote boxes until the next class, dive...

Do you let others use your equipment? Liability?

I will lend stuff to friends I might be diving with, or who might ask to borrow something. Usually it's just tanks. Last time it worked out well for me as the tanks were do for their vis. The friend that needed them had the vis' done. I have not leant equipment to students.

Number one cause of diving fatalities?

Think of the "root cause". The medical issues may be attributed to earlier events in the incident chain. Medical issues as a consequence of running out of air...running out of air as a consequence of failing to monitor the pressure gauge, etc.

Are BOW and AOW classes really changing that much

Before the usual crowd jumps on John, yes...you can (and do) teach decompression "theory" using computers. You do not need a table to do that. In fact, I have found we have much more time to address "theory" than before, because we are not spending time with folks who do not "get" the...
