I thought it was Thumbs Down, but I could be completely mistaken now.

From the posts I am not sure what the main beef with the pic is. The history of the picture contents or the source. It would disturb me more that the pic was of drowning victims, than copyright issues. Granted a business should not be getting pics in this mannor, but the complaints, regarding the source to me trivializes the preventable loss of dad and son, not to mention the impact on the family and friends left behind. Perhaps the esource issue would have been better discussed in a separate thread. There is nothing that can be done to make amends to the family and friends. I would hope that all who see this contacts the company that did it and voice their business practice concerns.

This thread was originally in Thumbs Down. That seems a better location. I'd expect a courtesy pm if a thread I'd started was moved. Mihgt be appropriate to start a new thread back in Thumbs Down?

I was going to move it to Thumbs Down before I read the post about it being moved. It was started in Thumbs Down but moved to Basic. I'll try to find out why it was moved.

I checked with the moderator who moved the thread. He felt it needed more attention than Thumbs Down could garner. Additionally people can't share Thumbs Down, as it's for members only.

I recognized the photo immediately. Shocking. Careless. But only if you know the history behind the picture. A reminder to everyone to be careful in just grabbing images from the web.

Hmm, that's odd as I just had a thread moved from basic "scuba diving" that was quasi scuba related and posted there for the sake of more exposure but was moved to another less frequented sub forum and the message I got was, "it's not related to basic scuba diving." Not sure how image copyright/advertising/pulling random pics of the Internet is any different. :idk:

Where did you originally post?

Thumbs down. Seemed the most appropriate forum for this thread.

Really shocking that they posted the image without doing any sort of checking. I do hope that there was an apology made to the family of those people.

With regards to the copyright issues of the posting, in my experience with the internet and photography, people think any image that is on the net is fair game. Hence why every image I take automatically logs time and date in the Exif (embedded file data) with a copyright notice (all rights reserved +name). If anyone uses my images without asking and I find it, I can prove time, date and ownership.
