. . . Swim trunks drive me absolutely insane, I cannot understand why anyone would prefer them over jammers or even whatever undies you wear day-to-day. But my main dive buddy wears trunks every single time, so YMMV.

As I mentioned above, I usually wear jammers. However, sometimes I resort to wearing trunks. Although lycra jammers are less body-hugging than lycra briefs (like the classic Speedo), I still find them a little too revealing to spend much time topside in them doing anything but waiting out a surface interval on a boat with my fellow divers who look just as goofy in whatever they are wearing. For instance, if I want to be able to walk off the boat and immediately walk back through town to my hotel or have a beer at a bar with my dive buddy, I'd rather be wearing swim trunks because they look and feel more like ordinary streetwear shorts. Some swim trunks are baggier and/or longer than others. Board shorts are baggy and long and therefore tend to bunch up uncomfortably, but there are others that I find useful in some circumstances.

Sure, yeah I do the same. For local shore dives, I'll often drive down to the site wearing jammers / lycra socks, with trunks over them. Park, set up my rig, swap the trunks for my wetsuit, dive. Go back to the truck, remove rig, swap wetsuit out for trunks (leaving the jammers on), and walk or drive directly to a restaurant. However, depending on the hydration / liquid body waste situation while under, sometimes the jammers are a little too ripe for this plan :D

A dedicated speedo type suit that I only wear with the wetsuit for two reasons other than the comfort of not having board shorts bunch up under the suit...

1 I do a bit of pool work with my local dive shop and I try to damage only one suit in the pool water.
2 Wetsuits CAN get a little funny smelling even if you take care of them properly so I keep the smell to one swimsuit.

I'm famously immodest so the speedo pool or lake side never bothers me lol

You lost me at "local shore dives" (in Northern California) in a wetsuit. That calls for a drysuit, and underneath, a tux a la James Bond, though I suppose it depends on the restaurant/casino.

Ha! Yeah, I've been diving in Monterey for a little over a year now in a 8/7mm semidry (Aqualung SolAfx) with 5mm gloves/booties. It does the job, but it ain't warm. Often times we'll pack 2 tanks, do 1 dive, and decide we're done for the day due to just feeling cold/tired. Last year I ordered a drysuit + base layer + 250gsm undies from Seaskin... it's due to arrive in a month or so. Can't wait :)

Swim trunks under a rash guard with Lycra socks, with a Lavacore top if it's chilly. I also wear tech shorts over my wetsuit since it lacks pockets.

Had a dedicated lycra dive swimsuit but legs were pretty short and it would still bunch up. Can't remember brand as I gave it to Goodwill.

In its place I now wear a lycra Speedo jammer which comes down the leg to a little above the knee and stays in place - no bunching up. They dry out pretty quick on the boat ride back to shore and I just slip a pair of shorts on over them. Might wear a rash guard if water is a little cooler than I like but not for protection from the suit.

Same thing I wear under my kilt. :)

I grew up playing the pipes since I was 7. I've marched in the nyc Saint Patrick's day parade since I was 9. I've never since worn anything under my kilt nor my wetsuit.

For f*cks sake, I'm gonna pee in it anyways. Both the kilt and the wetsuit.
