That means you're trying to adjust cracking effort with the orifice. The resultant change in purge flow is a function of lever height, and that "insipid" breathing at depth could end up being dangerous if lever excursion is limited by the drop.
Much better to shim the poppet spring. Or use the knob as you describe.

Wrote an email to scubaservicetools and told them that their tools is quite useless. They replied they had manufacturing error and have tried to contact everyone who had received faulty product, didn't reach me for some reason. They will ship me a new tool and then we'll see how that is.

Got a new tool free of charge! It's exactly the same as the previous one but it's black, previous one was white. The tool is still useless because it touches purge button in the middle of the logo unlike the original Apeks tool which is hollow from the middle.
