Obviously people won't be solo diving as part of a GUE team, but I take it you're indicating GUE would take issue if it became known a GUE instructor engaged in solo diving. If so, is that something just thought be conventional wisdom to be the case, or is it actually stated anywhere? Is it assumed, or known for sure?

Richard.

Worse, a GUE instructor who is also a TDI/SDI instructor who teaches the SDI Solo diver specialty course?? 🤠

Plus, I am a solo diver and I always enjoy a good cigar while walking 4-5 miles on the golf course......both of which I believe are disqualifiers for GUE acceptance!.

Blimey that is strict! Didn’t realise golf was a disqualifier for GUE. 😉

Apparently you don't get out much. I won't rattle them off here, but there are non-JJ CCRs and non-GUE instructors that have WAYYYY more of a cult following than GUE of the 2020s+ could ever aspire to.

If you are going to try and call out Edd and those that praise Edd for all he does, then call out Edd, don't try to be sly.

Does he have a following, yes he does. Is it well deserved? HELL YES! Hence the quote from @cerich "I use a safety reel because Edd Sorenson doesn't fit in my pocket"

Also, Edd doesn't really promote himself, at least not as much as some do and probably not as much as he should.

I’m sure he’s a great diver and instructor, but the dive talk guys talk about him he’s cave Jesus

Edd IS a great diver and a great instructor; I am a former student of Edd and have nothing but the best to say of my experience with him.

I agree that the youtube guys worship him in an inappropriate manner, not because Edd isn't worthy, but because the DT guys take it way too damn far.

The DT guys almost sully his name in their representation, but that is not Edd's doing.

It's seems to me as though there is a common theme here in that students of ___X___ are convinced that they have had the best instruction possible and their chosen agency / instructor is above reproach. IMO, the agency / instructor isn't the one who deserves the flack...IMO it is the verbose fan boys who deserve the flack.

As someone with experience with both, this is not unique to Edd or GUE. I personally value the training I received from both. YMMV

To be frank, he does not want to discuss too many details.

I'll discuss whatever you want to hear about my experience with GUE, in as much detail as you desire.
I have just been trying to avoid EXTREMELY long posts.

When GUE settles with me, then I'll consider the matter closed and I'll stop talking about it.

It's as simple as that.

GUE is keeping this case open by their inaction.

I will have to say that my experience with GUE had a positive outcome. I started diving a lot more to try to get myself up to the standards that I saw in the GUE class. There is ZERO dive support with 90 miles of me, so I bought a compressor, started mixing all my own back and deco gasses, started servicing all of my own gear, started diving 3-4 days a week, and went on to complete full cave with another agency.

I thought there was something in the standards, but I found nothing. Not being an instructor, I cannot say whether it is written in some other documents. But when I spoke with various instructors, the answer was always the same. Maybe John Kendall or Meredith could help you - or even @PfcAJ ? Try to contact them if you want to be sure :)

I would find it very weird that a solo diving instructor wants to teach for GUE, too much of a different philosophy, right? :D Anyway, I seriously think this would be an issue, but as I said above, I cannot prove it.

We discussed the details in the past, as in the link I posted, and as I said, I think your view is undoubtedly based on a bad experience but not detailed enough for me to form an idea. It's just a negative drop in a sea of positivity :)

Edd is a decent dude and a great diver. Does he have an ego? Yes, but he earned it. Most of the Cult of Edd problems comes not from Edd but the fans.

I just like to see if they are coming up with any new tech thats any better.

But a 157# rebreather? Haha.
