I thought there was something in the standards, but I found nothing. Not being an instructor, I cannot say whether it is written in some other documents. But when I spoke with various instructors, the answer was always the same. Maybe John Kendall or Meredith could help you - or even @PfcAJ ? Try to contact them if you want to be sure
Sorta the same thing for the GUE eh, but most of the problems come from people who haven't taken a GUE class talking about what GUE teaches.Edd is a decent dude and a great diver. Does he have an ego? Yes, but he earned it. Most of the Cult of Edd problems comes not from Edd but the fans.
generally new fundies grads or people who ran into a new fundies grad. the skills you get in those early classes are pretty neat and people tend to get a little dunning kruger and you see some weirdo hero worship. but that's not exclusive to GUE these days eitherSorta the same thing for the GUE eh, but most of the problems come from people who haven't taken a GUE class talking about what GUE teaches.
Marianna…
If you are going to try and call out Edd and those that praise Edd for all he does, then call out Edd, don't try to be sly.
Does he have a following, yes he does. Is it well deserved? HELL YES! Hence the quote from @cerich "I use a safety reel because Edd Sorenson doesn't fit in my pocket"
Also, Edd doesn't really promote himself, at least not as much as some do and probably not as much as he should.
I’m sure he’s a great diver and instructor, but the dive talk guys talk about him he’s cave Jesus
Edd is a great instructor. I've taken multiple classes with him. Unfortunately he has some die hard dudes that live and die by everything he says. I agree with most of his opinions, others not so much. I've never had an issue with Edd if I had a different opinion. His die hards are a different story. So I get the OP's initial comment, but that's not an Edd issue. Its the dudes that idolize him. You can spot them easily outside of Marianna. Always in Pinnacle drysuits, Hollis bc's, Sidewinders, and old school reels.Edd IS a great diver and a great instructor; I am a former student of Edd and have nothing but the best to say of my experience with him.
I agree that the youtube guys worship him in an inappropriate manner, not because Edd isn't worthy, but because the DT guys take it way too damn far.
The DT guys almost sully his name in their representation, but that is not Edd's doing.
It's seems to me as though there is a common theme here in that students of ___X___ are convinced that they have had the best instruction possible and their chosen agency / instructor is above reproach. IMO, the agency / instructor isn't the one who deserves the flack...IMO it is the verbose fan boys who deserve the flack.
As someone with experience with both, this is not unique to Edd or GUE. I personally value the training I received from both. YMMV
He's a doer, not a poster.probably not as much as he should.

And the dive talk guys are tools.
There's much more that characterizes the demographic (as I'm sure you know), but I'm attempting to be polite by leaving some things out.Nailed it. You can spot the church of edd guys a mile away
I don't say that you are lying, but damn, this is so difficult for me to believe... So many things are wrong on that one, and I cannot imagine a GUE-I letting them slide...Last year I was doing NDL dives with a South Florida operator that did not allow solo diving, and I was paired with a diver who carried a 40 marked with 50% nitrox. The first dive was to the RSB-1, a wreck that goes about 120 feet to sand. As soon as we hit the wreck, he was gone, and I had only fleeting glimpses of him until we were back on the boat. He was down far longer than I, so I assumed he had broken the rule against deco diving. The second dive was a reef dive with flag, so he had to stay with me. Given the length of his first dive, I assumed he would be in deco soon, and I was shocked that he lasted as long as he did. Then I saw that he was switching back and orth between his back gas and the 40, and he was not making any changes with his computer (a Shearwater). After the dive, I saw him looking at the computer with some degree of confusion, and we talked about it. He told me his GUE Fundamentals class had told him never to use comptuers. This was the first time he had ever used one, and he didn't understand how it worked. (He had borrowed it.) He had obviously been in deco for both dives, with no idea how to track it.
I think it may be if you are playing alone while smoking a good cigar and using a range-finder to confirm distances!Blimey that is strict! Didn’t realise golf was a disqualifier for GUE.
