ETA: Also that amount is pretty normal nationwide too. I just looked at my invoice for my recent trip to Dallas, 13%.
And we thank you for paying so we can avoid a state income tax!

I didn't pay for it, though you can thank anyone that uses oil & gas products. So in essence both you and I did pay for it. :rofl3:

I did Key largo / Tavernier trips in ‘20 and ‘21 for first times and found it not that expensive and for me the diving was good.

But everything is relative and personal preference...

Just got back from Caribbean trip (report pending) that was much more expensive and diving for me not as good.

If fish/marine life quantity and variety are important key largo is good

If sponges coral and fans are... maybe not...

The keys has very good fish life. For price, you do better in June or July.

The coral is definitely stressed as it is in most places unfortunately
That being said I have been diving here since 92 and the fish life has increased dramatically imho
The coral restoration team has been planting like crazy and their work is starting to really show
I still do miss the majestic walls of Coz/GC though

I haven’t been disappointed by the coral/sponges in key largo because there’s so much marine life to observe.

On the flip side I’m not too impressed by walls with no fish life after the first few times. The awe of staring into the abyss wore off and there being no marine life to speak of makes me less than impressed.

Just depends on preference; I really enjoy the abundant marine life in key largo!

Funny you say that,I was diving the North wall at about 115 feet and we saw an Eagle Ray/ The boat was estatic.
The next week I was diving a patch reef in about 20 feet of water(islamorada) and saw about 25 swimming together

I just returned from my 3rd GC trip.

On the 2nd/3rd best dive of the week we saw 1 nurse shark and similarly the boat was ecstatic... on both of my keys trips I didn't even try to count how many we saw every day...

Yes, the Keys are pretty expensive. The cheapest way to do it for us is to find an AirBnB or VRBO rental. I'd love to dive the Keys more because we like the area there and the people, etc. But it's hard to book there when you can catch a flight through Nassau and dive the Bahamas Out Islands, or go to Cozumel, etc. for less money oftentimes.

We were there in August (Key Largo) and the diving was really good, low-key and fun! I have to add that we did a dive on French Reef and it looked pretty beat up. We were told they are planning to remove one or more mooring balls on French to give a bit of a break. Not sure if that has happened or not. I'm sure it'll come back nicely if they do that. Everywhere else looked good. Lots of fish and quite a few Eagle Rays!
