Got rid of my Mares Syncro Power and I bought a complete Halcyon Pioneer Setup 36 lbs. wing with 15 lbs. weight pockets, 6 lbs. SS back plate, off e-bay for $450.00. This is my 1st BP/W setup.

Just wondering if I payed to much, or is that average cost for a used Halcyon BP/W?

This was my thinking:

A new backplate and wing runs $515.00 from a dealer. Weight pockets run $132.00 Total new is over $700.00 plus tax if you buy from a store with everything. This system is in great condition and the wing looks brand new.

Before I get flamed because I already bought it and I hear "what does it matter", I guess I'm looking for opinions if it was a good deal or not, so I can either chalk it up as one of life's learning experiences. :flame:

It's not that bad, but it's a bit more than I would have paid.

Where do the weight pockets go?

Ohh I didn't notice the pockets on the waist belt, I thought they might be standalone pockets that went on the tank straps or some such.

Yeah, that's a pretty good deal :)

BTW, you can pour yourself a lead weight right into the channel of the backplate. It can be handy for us cold water divers who need a lot of lead  See the jpgs at http://www.jonnythan.com/scuba/ for my first one, made to be used without an STA, and http://www.jonnythan.com/scuba/channel_weight_2/ which is used with an STA.

I'm pretty sure the first one is still in my basement, and if your plate is a Halcyon (and it looks like it is) you're welcome to it if you're interested. I'm sure we'll run into each other at a LED trip or something, and you can try it out then. It's 7-8 pounds.. especially handy if you're diving Al tanks.

Thanks for the pics.... it is a Halcyon Backplate, I think I'm going to go with a PST E-7 100, right now I'm using 20 lbs. in weight so I'm very curious to see how much weight I'm going to drop. I think it's going to be like going from a (BCD) truck to a (BP/W) sports car. :D

With a couple of oil changes, you will be doing 0 to 2 in no time!!!

I've had a DiveRite Transpac and a Halcyon Pioneer and to me the Halcyon Pioneer is overrated the wing damages to easy, I think its not as sturdy as the Transpac, but hey to each his own, you will find out for yourself. Just my 2 cents.

The Transpac isn't a wing.

Pretty good..... but I just paid $425.00 :D

My luck on Ebay has been really rough lately though. One Pioneer wing had a leak, had to send it back, and the second the guy took my money after I asked him to make sure the wing was good, and then he turned around and says the wing is "bad". Still waiting for refunds from them both.

I picked up a seperate pair of integrated weight pockets prior to this last purchase (which includes them).... however the sellers idea of "excellent" on my integrated weight pockets, is far from that, and they are going back, or I'll have to list them back on Ebay.

Ebay is really getting bad me thinks. It seems that every deal lately has turned sour on me.

Hopefully this last $425 deal I made on my 36lb'er will actually turn out to be what the auction says EXCELLENT!

You did just fine. Your set like mine includes the integrated weight pockets. These are $135 alone. If your set is in truly excellent condition you can figure you got your back plate, mc pack and harness for free.
