thank you, all. I guess i'll just stick to the two tank bands.

I sometimes switch between 80's and 100's during the same trip so adjusting is a pain but then so is parenthood and I haven't gotten rid of any of my kids... yet.

Not so sure wetting tank straps is necessary...we never do it, have never seen anyone actually do this, and have never had or witnessed any problems for properly and attentively tightened tank straps...but hey, if it provides peace of mind then go for it.

The benefit of 2 tank straps is when one is not tightened down properly and the tank begins to slip...with 2 straps the tank kinda becomes slightly angled and wedges itself in the straps preventing or significantly slowing it from slipping out...with one strap this can't/doesn't happen and the tank can quickly slip free.

I can totally understand being frustrated with double tank straps...that is compounded by integrated weight pockets and trim weight pockets mounted on the tanks straps.

So other than the earth stopping its current rotation and restarting in the other direction, there is no reason why one can't dive with a singe strap...just make sure you get it tight before splashing.

There was a thread a few weeks ago on the use of friction pads. Some like them (me), some don’t. If you are going to dive with one tank band, this would be $2 well spent. My wings have two straps, and I use a friction pad on each. It’s not that I can’t fix the problem during the dive….I just don’t want to have to. I’m an “ounce of prevention” kind of guy. Depending on the dive, or the diver, a slipping tank could be the start of a disaster chain.

You do you. Safe travels.

I have scoured the webz and done a couple of mild searches here on SB to no avail. Is it feasible to use a single tank band with a BP/W? I have the freedom plate with wedge, for the record. My Hydros only uses one tank strap and I'm wondering, before I get in the water, why wouldn't a BP/W?

Let the snark begin!!!!

Sure. I was just in Bali and an Italian chappie who joined our vacation dives in a BP/w with a single tank. Even if you only dive a single tank setup you can always sling a second tank as this buddy of mine has done. He dives an Xdeep with single tank.

Single tank band? It depends also on whether the wing has a stiffening to help prevent tank twisting, which if absent means you probably need a STA, or two tank bands.

I also bleed a live chicken, say three Hail Mary’s and throw salt over my shoulder for “peace of mind” before every dive. Saturated nylon webbing (depending on the OEM) does stretch. Look it up!

Did he dive with a tilt?

I've dived a single Scubapro tank band for 2200 dives, I've never had loose tank.
LOL. My one-and-only loose tank was when I forgot to close my SP-style band after a tank change.
Turns out that remove-and-replace skill u/w can indeed be useful.
