Hello all 😊

I'm a diver from sunny Portugal in Europe and I'm the new guy over here.

I'm currently a Padi-Rescue (please be kind) and about to start a TDI-An/Dp.

I've been diving since September last year, where I started my journey into the depths at the age 40, and now coming really close to my 100th dive (excluding courses) and loving everyone of them.

I enjoy looking at the sea life just like anyone should but am particularly fond of wrecks.

I usually dive at Sesimbra on the weekends, you're more than welcome to come and say hi and we'll down a couple of deco beers.

Happy diving to everyone 👌

Welcome to ScubaBoard. Hope you'll post trip reports from your diving; I haven't seen Portugal mentioned much.

Richard.

SM or doubles?

Welcome!
Neither, and thanks 😅

My instructor believes in taking one step at a time.
Deco procedures are what they are, theory and procedures for a dive requiring mandatory deco stops with deco bottles.
Afterwards, and I believe at no extra cost, he can train me on backmounted doubles or sidemount, that's my choosing.
I'm considering sidemount, after I'm comfortable with my run times 😊

So you’re doing AN/DP without any actual deco dives?

We rarely hear about diving off Portugal. How is it?
The water temp is between 58 and 65 Fahrenheit year round. Visibility in the summer is a bit low due to algae but from September forward it's nice.
Not many colored fish but still plenty of diversity to keep entertained.
Off course it all depends where you're diving, I usually dive from a coastal town called Sesimbra.
Maybe not a diving trip destination but, if you ever find yourself here for your holidays, it sure is worth a while to go to a diving center for a dive.

We are, just not on doubles.
If I take a 15L @ 230bar down to 40 meters (I believe it's a bit over 100 cf down to 130 ft) I'll reach my NDL within 10 minutes time.
Since the purpose is to train and execute, rather than sight seeing, it's more than enough.

I too thought that I would be doing the training with doubles but, after talking with my instructor I understood his approach on the subject.

After I get the deco procedures right, we'll then apply that with either doubles or SM.

Hello! Welcome! Good to have here somebody from Europe! Quoting water temperature in Celsius and distance in meters is OK here.😊 Sidemount is great. Do you know some good diving spots in Algarve?
