So do you just whip it into whatever tanks you have for the RB?

Wouldn't a large 244cf T bottle of O2 be even cheaper still? We pay $30 / tank.. but it's only 2400psi.
Oooh!!!! I hadn't thought of that. I should look into that. Right now, if the minimum psi that I want in my 23 cu ft / 3L O2 bottle is 1500 psi, then I can get 4 fills out of my HP133 with transfills. If I want 1000 psi (which is more realistic given that I'm using air as a DIL, I'm diving about an hour each time), then 1000 psi is enough, and I can get 3 more fills.

This is assuming that I drain my O2 cylinder to empty each time, so in practice, I will get one or two more sufficient partial fills.

That's pretty convenient for my current purposes.

But a 244 cf T bottle, even better. Thanks for that tip.

Oh come on, I know your Fathom instructor taught you better than this...

AL30 = 4L
3000psi = 207bar
4*207 = 828L volume
Assume 1L/min usage (including calibrations, oxygen flushes, errant use, can't fully drain cylinder)
800L/1L/min = 800min = 13hr at high end. Anything more than 6hr on my 2L cylinder and I bring a spare AL6 as well as the 40s or 80s of oxygen that I can plug in on deco.

OK, 16hr instead of 20hr. I can go with that. The point I was making, you don't have to top off your O2 bottle after every single dive. My apologies if you took my imperical numbers directly to heart as hard fast facts. Lets put it this way, I have never HAD to fill my onboard O2 bottle because I thought I would not have enough for a dive. As I stated, I fill it just as a matter of convenience. I also am not positive that 1L/min is super accurate but if we want to do that as a "safe" number, cool.

I also do not use my onboard O2 for deco. I plug in my AL40 deco bottle through my QC6, do a dil (O2) loop flush and go from there.

My scrubber is good for 6hr and my onboard O2 is more than enough for that.

At least I’ll be getting “cheap” air fills instead of the nitrox I dive on OC. There is a shop in the area that will cave fill my 50s. I’ll be hitting them up a lot. They count two 50s as one fill, which is very nice.

I honestly don't know.. but I like the idea of a RB.
You’re frugal and a big DIYer. There are plenty of used CCRs on the market that are what I refer to as “fixer-uppers.” You’ll get to tinker to your cheap little heart’s content! 🤣😂

I need to get some more dives in before I head down that road. Need to enjoy what I have and the dives that I can go on right now and not look too deep just yet. As long as I stay above 150' for the time being I have all the gas I need... maybe get AN/He done.

You're right though, I would love to crack one of them open just to investigate!

Don't discount the transfill wip. I can dive all weekend transfilling off my bailout O2.

My 104th dive was on a ccr :wink:

For those of us diving on a budget with multiple kids and a wife and a life outside of diving CCR falls a little to the bottom of the list... I'll get there, I have plenty of time. I'm still a few years away from being in my 40's.

Yeah I just have one when I got my rebreather
