Scubapro D-Mask First Cleaning Help / Confused

Ok.. so I have read many of these types of threads, and many on the d-mask... and they just confuse me.

Here's the thing. I usually have used tooth paste and it works great. This time I've tried just baby shampoo, but its still fogging very easily with my "breath test".

I'm worried about the UV coating on the D-Mask. I can't seem to find a straight answer on whether the coating is only on teh outside and if its safe to clean the inside.

I've even read that because the lenses aren't bonded to the frame (its modular), it shouldn't have as much residual silicone on the lens (and thus not require de-fog prepping!).

Has anyone tooth-pasted theirs?

I'm going on a dive trip in a week and won't have a chance to try it until then... was hoping to have it prepped and ready.

I’ve found blue Dawn dishwashing liquid works really good for just about anything. I’d try that. Wash the lenses until you hear the squeaky clean and see how that goes.

I have read somewhere but I don't remember where and don't remember the details that one has to be gentle with the D Mask as not to remove the coating. I'd suggest getting in touch with SP first and find out the real thing from them directly before you do anything.

Just use a strong solution of dish soap, scrub the soap into the lens then fill with hot tap water and let it soak, do it again, done. Since the lens isn’t molded into the mask it doesn’t have all of the mold release to remove. Use defogger in any case and you should be good to go.

I hope I am not too late... PLEASE DO NOT USE ANY ABRASIVE NOR STRONG CHEMICAL AT ALL in the D Mask!
I only used a mild dish detergent and my fingers to stop the mask from fogging and I ended up stripping the UV coating on one of the lenses.

I didn't use any force at all but I did rubbed each crystals perhaps 1mn too long... It's a true pity because this is the BEST mask I've ever used and especially having a full size beard.

On the positive side, SCUBAPRO in Germany sent to me a pair of replacement lenses without further questions. I guess they are aware of the issue and they also have a fantastic After Sales Customer Care department (at least here). IMO, the UV coating should be placed on the outside and we simply should be slightly more careful with handling.

On the negative side, there's nothing one can do to stop this mask from fogging but leaving some mm of water inside and rinse it often with circular motions while looking down... meaning eye irritation is unavoidable. Perhaps rubbing less time with the detergent could have solved the issue with time... don't know.

Closing, I started using prescription 'reading' glasses so I ordered the clear versions from Scubapro that obviously fit the D Mask. These don't come with any UV coating so the problem is solved.
The bad thing is they only come in +1, +2 and +3 increments.
I need +1.5 so I've got +1 hopping that the additional +.5 will be covered by the +25% water magnification.
Mind that extra magnification if you plan to order them

How did they work out for you? Can you read the computer/gauge easily without straining to see the numbers?

I haven't been able to try it yet UW, however I can read my watch (D5) quite well on the surface at normal arms reach without the extra 25-30% magnification from the water so I guess everything's going to be ok
