Yup, they are done for. Unfortunately due to lack of support and the JJ terms of service you will have to send them back to the manufacturer. I will provide the address for you.

Official some guy on the internet that has industry connections.

Is it the USA distributor (Rebreathers USA) or JJ? There's a huge difference.

If it's Rebreathers USA, I'd expect that it wouldn't take long for another person to pick up distributorship (and I'd put money on Horizon). If it's the main company itself, I'd say I don't believe it.

Personally, I think the JJ is a great unit and if someone were looking for an eCCR I would strongly recommend putting it on the short list.

This guy who "knows" sounds like he's related to all the guys who said a certain newer brand of reg that came out in 2008 would not be around long. I've been servicing and selling those for the last 10 years and they show no signs of going away. I love these unnamed "experts" who are "on the inside of the industry" when it comes to telling others what to buy.

What insight can there be to a question like that? Regardless of the facts there are two responses, either to agree or not have heard anything and so disagree from a position of ignorance.

I will disagree. The JJ has been extremely successful, here in the U.K. it is second only to the AP which had a nearly15 year head start and is made locally. It is the only CCR GUE teaches. People that own them REALLY like them.

There is definitely value in the company. If what you have heard is true I would be prepared to invest in keeping it going. There are a lot more CCRs to be sold.

The insight could be... “this is common knowledge, he’s been open about it” or it could be “He has a legacy plan that is not a secret to any of us” or lastly it could be “only he knows and he ain’t talkin.” I’m new to this community and I don’t know what’s known and what’s not. Moreover, I won’t know if I don’t ask. I work in an industry of continuous and rigorous intellectual curiosity. It is more or less my default mindset.

I am interested in that story…

He is a well known and well respected dude in the industry. You in no way contributed to the quality of this thread.
With time you will learn that being well known and well respected in the diving world doesn't mean anything. Some of the most well respected/big name divers in the cave diving world are also some of the worst instructors or shadiest people. Many of whom will talk crap about their competition. So you've basically said "a guy told" me, but he's got a big name so there's a good chance it's true. Those of us that have been around a while are able to read through the bs and realize that this is likely hearsay, assumptions, or completely made up by some guy who wants to talk crap about the JJ for his own benefit. Sadly it's very common in the tech world. Lots of big names who also happen to be bigger a-holes.

Thanks, that's the kind of insight I was looking for : ) For the record though, I never said "there's a good chance it's true." I asked because I was skeptical. If he'd just been Joe Six Pack, I would have blown it off. The fact that he wasn't gave me pause. While we were speaking with him, he showed us a dive watch/computer that apparently won't be released for a year or two. It was very small, very cool, and very capable. Even though the two are unrelated, that lent credence to his remarks on JJ in my mind.

I was paraphrasing you. If you don't tell us who the person is, then we can only assume it's one of the myriad of A-type personalities that like to throw around misinformation. Maybe not. Maybe the guy's legit, but the point is chest pounding and sh-t talking is rampant among tech instructors. I know of quite a few instructors that get some gear to beta test from time to time. It means nothing in regards to their quality of instruction or whether they're sh-t talkers or not. You asked, so we're giving you the answers based on our experiences.
