Maybe I'm going down a rabbit hole, but I really am curious... I know this is a taxi union thing, but is it also law?

I mean, I could pass all the union rules I want here in Albany, NY, but nobody is obligated to follow my arbitrary rules...

I've been picked up in a dive op's pickup truck a time or two. I've been driven to the airport by the rental car place after turning my car in. I'm sure people do whatever they can get away with to help their customers.

Thanks for all of the replies. Went ahead and booked a Airbnb in Centro and rented a car for $22/day. Worth it for us as boys may wanna do other stuff on island too.

You're going to have a great time! I've found a good rule of thumb is, the further you are from the water the better and cheaper the food gets. There are exceptions to every rule, but get out there and explore. Go check out El Pique, by the San Francisco grocery store, best tacos ever! My mouth is watering thinking about it.

+1 to what @DeltaWardog said... wonder the streets, weave back and forth... and stick you head in every Tacorita.

I'm not a big fan of taking pictures of my food, but I happened to be texting with my wife when I sat down here, so I sent her a few pictures, which I now have on my phone.

This place is on the corner of Benito Juarez and 25 North.

Each taco was $25 MXN ($1.25 USD). That included the pico/ salsas/ limes/ etc. A coke was 20 MXN, maybe. For $5 USD, plus a tip, you'd have a great meal there... FYI these were chili relleno tacos with pickled onions.

Whenever we return to the airport in our ISIS rental, they send someone with us to take the car back but they have us drive to the airport. There is no rule against a customer driving their rental car.

Better verify that car rental includes the insurance. Also, you may find parking can be a problem.

Did you see the recent thread on the canceled flight and ensuing standoff with taxis and shuttles when returning passengers to the airport? That is against the local rules and you might well find yourself at the center of another dispute. Businesses are not supposed to be transporting their customers on the island.
With 5 persons the shop manager will go down and arrange a taxi. If I am on the island and have one of the shop trucks and it is 4 or less I'll pick them up.

Take an afternoon and relax on the east side, stop by Rasta's its a pretty chill place

I think 3ps has some kind of relationship with the taxis, they've been doing that for years with no issues I have ever heard of.....
