There will be a couple of seats open on the NSS-CDS BoD. Anyone interested in serving should PM me here.

The only requirement is that you have to have been a NSS-CDS member for a year. Nominations must be in not later than February 13, 2021.

This is a great way to give BACK to the cave diving community.

So what is the CDS actually doing these days? My last chat with the Chairman prior to Renee essentially told me the history of the organization and that's why I should renew. She was unable to give me any reason to renew other than access to Cow. Everything else was "well we did this", no the NFSA did that and you assisted. I'm still waiting to see any relevance before I renew.

Also, someone needs to check their website as Cathy is still listed as property manager for Cow and she's been gone for well over a year

I cannot give you an all inclusive list but will give you off the top of my head some things.
  • Helping keep access to several caves we like to dive in.
  • Training Cave divers and setting the bar high in terms of training standards.
  • Keeping Public Relations in a positive light.
  • Workshops and conferences for public and cave diver education.
There are other things and hopefully other folks will chime in.

Yea I noticed the website needs tweaking...

Interesting... but off topic.

The topic of this thread is to appeal to NSS-CDS members who might want to become a Board Member and do something positive for the organization. Let's respect the OP and return to that topic. You can always start a "What have you done for me lately?" thread for everyone to gripe in, but this about having a personal impact on the group.

New Thread for the off topic posts: NSS-CDS Effectiveness

Thanks for making the thread a separate thread on effectiveness of the CDS. All I am doing is trying to identify anyone who is interested in being on the BoD.

It is an opportunity for fresh blood to look at the organization and help make any changes that they see need to be made.

All of us appreciate the constructive criticism that has appeared on the new thread. If you agree with that criticism, its your chance to become an agent for change.

I have an NSS-CDS card from a cross-over, but I am not an NSS member. I am a member of my "local" Canadian club and the umbrella organization for that (the British Columbia Speleological Federation), despite living in Washington State. I am as active as I can be in those organizations without actually being Canadian and having a closed border at the moment. I'm one of the few cave divers actively exploring in BC (there are only a handful of us between Alberta and BC anyway). There are no flooded caves in WA state (Oregon has one and its closed to all access).

What do you expect a Board member to do? And what qualifications do you expect? Is there a "job description"?

FYI my PMs are turned off here but feel free to reply publicly

All the duties of the directors are listed in the attached file.

I missed this. That's a GREAT improvement. When did it change or was I just misinformed?
